Equine Dictionary
Help us to build the largest equine dictionary on the web. We've started adding horse, riding and related topics into the dictionary and already have 971 entries.
We've entries from very old terms (useful for Scrabble players!) to medical conditions and anatomy.
Horses and riding have a long history and have picked up some very odd and arcane words, some of which are still around today or you may find used in books. With the help of this dictionary let's try and make it easy to understand what they mean.
Using it
Simply click on a letter from below or use the search box to find a word.
Help Us Add to the Dictionary
On each page you'll see an entry form where you can suggest a new word we haven't got, or add some more to one of our existing definitions to make it clearer.
Entries could include, famous horses and people, terms used when riding, American/UK differences in names, veterinary terms or just about anything else horse related.
When you add a suggestion it might take a few days to appear as all entries will go to our dictionary team who add to and edit the database.

Includes the horse, ass, zebra, and Quagga, all are closely related anatomically, of the zoological order Ungulata meaning odd-toed. They can all interbreed, but the hybrids are almost invariably sterile, proving that the species are quite distinct. All the members of the family are distinguished by the peculiarity that they stand on a single toe of each foot.
