Lightweight material for summer driving, and of heavy box-cloth for winter use, this is worn over the knees of the coachman or coach passengers.
Farrier's Apron - made of strong leather or hide; it is worn to protect the farrier's legs when a horse is being shod.
In sidesaddle, the name given to the 'skirt' of the sidesaddle habit. |

A breed of horse that comes from Arabia. They are known for their stamina and beauty. The are genetically different from most other breeds of horse in that they have one less vertebra in the backa nd longer pasterns.
Four Arabian stallions (when crossed with British native breeds) formed the Thoroughbred Horse.
They are also known for doing very well at Endurance races, and other activities requiring stamina and good feet. |

(1857 - 1886) Born at Cheltenham, Fred Archer became champion English jockey for 13 seasons. From the age of 13 in 1870 until his death, he rode 8,084 races and won 2,748. He left £66,662 on his death. Nicknamed 'The Tinman,' he was a great believer in the persuasive powers of whalebone and steel. (Also, see Richards, Sir Gordon). |
