Arab Horse Society
Founded in England in 1918 to promote the breeding and importation of pure-bred Arabs and to encourage the re-introduction of Arab blood into English light horse breeding. The Society holds shows, and publishes studbooks for Arabs, Anglo-Arabs, and part-bred Arabs.

Arabian horse
A breed of horse that comes from Arabia. They are known for their stamina and beauty. The are genetically different from most other breeds of horse in that they have one less vertebra in the backa nd longer pasterns.
Four Arabian stallions (when crossed with British native breeds) formed the Thoroughbred Horse.
They are also known for doing very well at Endurance races, and other activities requiring stamina and good feet.
Bit with an arch mouth, giving maximum tongue room.

Archer, Frederick
(1857 - 1886) Born at Cheltenham, Fred Archer became champion English jockey for 13 seasons. From the age of 13 in 1870 until his death, he rode 8,084 races and won 2,748. He left £66,662 on his death. Nicknamed 'The Tinman,' he was a great believer in the persuasive powers of whalebone and steel. (Also, see Richards, Sir Gordon).
