Stuffing
  Wool, shaped felt, foam rubber, or some similar material used in saddles.

Summer Black
  A colour of horse where the winter coat is a dark brown and the summer coat is black

Summer Sheets
  Made of cotton or polyester-cotton and are used to protect the groomed horse against dust and the worry of flies.

Surcingles
  A belt or girth of leather; webbing or sometimes elasticised that fit around the horse to secure a rug or saddle, helping to keep them in place. Care must be taken with non-elasticised surcingles that they do not rub the horse's back.

  The suspensory ligament provides a form of support for the fetlock joint, preventing it from extending downward too far towards the ground, which would increase the risk of strains.

Sward
  The grass and various other plants that grow in the ground in a field.

Swell/Fork
  (Western) also called the Pommel. The Fork design gives shape and definition to the front of the saddle. An "A-Fork" is just what it's name implies; the front of the saddle looks like an "A" as it rises from the bars to the horn. Other fork styles are somewhat broader in appearance, with more swell to the fork. The more swell to the fork, the more support you feel.

Swingle Tree or Swingle
  A short piece of wood or metal fitted to taker the ends of the traces. Either attached directly to a vehicle or to a longer swingle tree taking a short one at each end.

Synovia
  A transparent, sticky fluid secreted by part of the joint. This fluid is present in a bursa and helps lubricate the joint.
