I'm considering doing the same thing! I've asked this question on NR before! I've been told you'll need to work your way up the BHS stages and get your Prelimary Teaching qualification. I would visit the BHS website for more info: www.bhs.org.uk
Hope it helps!

I would look at the bhs site as well , gives you loads of advice on what to do, you first start of at stage 1 were you have the option of riding or practical and theory, you can do both or one of them, first stage is assisant instructor, second intermiedate and third international and then you can have decide whether to the fellowship or not :)

The fellowship is some of the very best in the country.

To get to the first teaching exam you need:

Stage 1- riding and horse care
Riding and road safety exam
Stage 2 - riding and horse care
The preliminary teaching test

Once you've passed all of these - you become a BHSPT and you can start doing your hours.

Once you've passed your stage 3 riding and horse care. And completed your 500 hours. Can be done either as below, if you do them in a WTT yard, you only have to do 250hrs.

500 hrs in a normal riding school
350 hrs in a BHS approved school
and 250 in a where to train yard.

10% of the hours can be stable management.

Once this is completed and signed off, and you've done the first aid course, you'll be awared the BHS AI - assistant instructor.
