I know adults for showing are supposed to wear long boots and children short boots. But does this apply even if you ride a pony? As on Loki (12hh section A) they tend to look really bulky, plus due to my height etc I find it hard to find long boots to fit and end up with vuts at the back of my knees

You can, and I think most do, wear short brown boots on small breeds even if you an adult :)

I've read before that adults riding natives can wear jodphur boots. When i was at a county show last summer I did see adults riding in brown short boots. I think this is mainly allowed for riding the smaller natives

I wear gaiters for showing due to large calf muscles  and they do fine and are very comfortable!!!

long boots will just ''take up the pony'' if you get me?

Colour depends on your tack and jacket really.

Brown joddy boots on a small breed, black long boots on a large breed. Brown long boots just don't really look right unless you're Lynn Russell, and they cost a fortune compared to black ones hence why black are more popular.

14-15handers I think it's long boots, but then above local level I'm fairly sure adults don't compete in those classes. At local anything goes, and it's best when in that height range to see what looks best on the individual combination.
