View Full Version : Distance Learning Courses 'bout Horses?!

I have this strange urge to do some sort of 'training' or 'learning', but frankly am fed up with nursing related studies... so whilst doing the washing up this evening had a flash of inspiration, and thought I'd quite like to do something horse related!

Has anyone done any distance learning courses that are equine related?

I'd be interested to hear what people's ideas and opinions of them are!:D

I had that same strange urge in early December. I've done part of one before, but I moved to the Coast to work, they changed my address no problems. When it came to me moving back home, they didn't change my address back no matter how often I contacted them and no matter what form of communication I used. My old bosses didn't even bother to forward the mail back to me, they just threw them away.
Anyway, back to my urge. I decided to try them again, having just finished my Honours degree, 7 years of tertiary study needs weaning off it, so I wanted to do a little fun correspondence course, because I was bored and couldn't find a job. Applied 1st December. Finally processed with my money on the 21st of December. They, by all rights should have sent my first pack to me on the 22, the last day of the working calendar year. I waited by my mailbox, nothing. Assuming that it's just the summer holidays (ours is over the New Year break), I called them on the 8th of January, they told me that the distance office opens on the 15th. Mail would normally take 1-2 days to get here from there. I was all excited yesterday, got home, and NOTHING!. I left an angry message last night on their phone. If it's not here today....
Anyway that's my rant out of the way!
I'm supposed to be doing a course in Equestrian (riding), I've completed most of the Equine one (horse care). They're pretty interesting, the assessment isn't hard. Just choose a provider who actually has a good administration system!

Thanks for all your replies folks, have bookmarked all the sites and will trawl through them:D

Trouble with me is I'm a fussy so-and-so- I'd like to do a course that isn't too expensive, gives me a recognised 'bit of paper' AND is nothing to do with the BHS... a bit too much to ask I guess!!:D

There's also the on-line module (theory only) for the KC La Pierre method of barefoot trimming. It can be done as a standalone module though obviously it doesn't qualify you to trim feet.

I'm doing the Horse Owner's level 3 with the open college of equine studies(TOCES). I am enjoying it but to be honest they charge a LOT of money for what it is. Why not find out about part-time/evening courses at a local college?
