Hi, was wondering if a 15yr old can do BHS qualifications, like the stage 1 etc, and how I go about doing it? As I am planning to refuse to carry on doing GCSE PE :D (Was forced into it and have found out not allowed to do horseriding as no RS is near enough - and have been backed by mum and stepdad to quit GCSE PE!) so I figured I could be doing something that would actually contribute to my career when I'm older, as opposed to running round in circles and getting marked on it :p
Sooo.....can I? And how much is it?
Thankyoo! x

Yes, you can do stage 1 at 14 years old, although they recommend not doing it until you are at least 15. I just looked up the costs on the BHS website, it is £130 for the complete stage 1 test (riding and stable management) or £95 for riding and £68 for the stable management if you want to do them seperately.
To study for them, you can study the theory part by yourself from books - I believe a lot of your stage 1 is theory and the majority of practical parts are really straightforward. You do need to do everything the "correct" way though, so you could contact your local riding school and ask if they train towards BHS stages.
Hope this helped :)

hi, my daughter did stage1 riding and care last year aged 14. it is mainly common sense. read the book for the course. you are asked to demonstrate centain procedures, in a group..an individual is picked out. the others are asked to comment. find out which centres are doing exams you may have to travel quite a way. pony club have their own version of the exam, its a good place to start. good luck!
