Im quite pleased with our outing today. We took Nuggie to his first show, which was also his first time away from home in about 6 months. I was so nervous, i thought that it was going to be the worst day ever! But, turned out to not be so bad, despite the 30+mph winds and freezing cold, lol. :rolleyes:
So, we took him to a show about 20mins up the road from our barn. It was a small schooling show and not many people were there yet, which was a bit of a relief. We unloaded him from the trailer and lead him around to see stuff, which he did and pranced a bit, but nothing life threatening. Then, what i had dreaded quite a bit, tieing him to the trailer. Oi. So, i made a nice big hay bag for him and he was pretty cool with that idea, once he figured out you werent suppose to grab the purple part, just the hay. Hehe. Silly pony.
He was great for tacking up and great in the schooling ring when my RI lunged him. He only nickered back to the trailer once, and didnt spook at anything but once when a couple horses were playing in the paddock, but he just trotted off a bit. We went into the arena to show, and had a couple of minutes to wander about the ring and get him aquainted with the scary dressage arena, which isnt very scary. We had a great ride, and the judge had a lot of good things to say about him. She said he has lovely potential. We scored a 7 for our free walk and a 7 for gaites. :D Me happy. So, overall, we scored 117/200= 58.5%! The judge liked his tempo , but through most of the test, we had a crooked neck. :rolleyes: But he's so nosey!!
So yeah, the dreaded first show for my youngster went much better than expected. I should have a video soon that i will try to upload and post for everyone. Sorry, no pics. I will definately take some next time! He looked so gorgeous with his mane all done up. :D Well, just thought i would share! :)
