basically each move is marked out of 10 the higher the mark the better.
50% is in the middle (obviously!) and so anything over and above 50% is going good!!

In affiliated dressage Prelim doesn't score points but at Novice level or higher points are allocated for scores of 60%+

1point for scores between 60 and 61.99%, add 1 point for each additional 2% rise over that to a maximum of 7 points.

To further complicate matters to qualify for regional championships you have to achieve a qualifying place AND percentage.

Prelim - two placings of first or second in qualifiers with scores of 65%+

The rest are two wins, one of which must be a qualifier
Novice restricted - 65%+
Novice open - 66%+
Elementary restricted - 64%+
Elementary open - 66%+
Medium restricted and open - 63%+
Advanced Medium - 63%+

PSG - 62%+ at least twice (don't have to be wins/places)
Inter I - 62%+ at least twice (don't have to be wins/places)

To go to Nationals you need a qualifying place at the Regionals with a score of 65%+

Inter II & GP go straight to Nationals.

For Area Festivals you need two sheets at your level at 60%+. To qualify for finals you need to place first or second with 62%+

If you ever do any one day events, it gets confusing cos they take the dressage score from 100 so a low score is good, e.g. 72% in the test will give you a score of 28. First time I did one I thought hurrah, my test was fab, we're in the lead! No actually we were last. Well you live and you learn!

for a first test 50% is good, i have had less and more :p just ride the best test you can and the percentage will increase overtime :)
