Hi,
I have recently thought the idea of being an equine physiotherapist sounds good but don't know a lot about it. So..
Is anyone an equine physiotherapist?
Do you know what training you need?
What a-levels would you need?
PLease can you give me general info :)
Would I be right in thinking you would need to train for humans first? It sounds like quite an interesting job!
Thanks :D

I looked into doing that at one point, I think it would be a good job. You do have to study humans first. I think you need quite good a levels to be able to do it, and they like some sciencey ones like biology. I think the Sheffield Hallam uni does it, you should have a look on their website and it will describe the course! Good luck:D

you have to train as a human physio and then work for 12 months in that field before you are allowed to do animals.

....unless you are like the person we know who is not qualified as any kind of physio but advertises her services as such!
Trading standards say there is nothing they can do as the word "physiotherapist" is not protected, if she said she was a "chartered physio" or some such term they could act.
So just be careful when allowing a "physiotherapist" near your horse or your person! Make sure they are what they say they are!

Just talked to my mate it takes 7 years including the 3 on humans to qualify...
This is what she wrote : its just such a long process to become a veterinary physio...7 years and im only in 3rd year!
Please if you have any questions pm me and I will pass them on, she said she would answer them

Physio - hey lizzie, what year are you in, I'm in year 12 and am interested also interested in physio (equine as a possibility) but it is very competeitive - Over the xmas hols i went up to nottingham uni to do a course about physio - a kind of taster course which i would advise to you , even, if like me, it's only an idea as it was a great experience. we got to stay in halls and as i said it was great
as overs have said to be a chartered animal physio you have to train as a human physio (3-4years) then spend at least 12month in circulation (working in different wards /settings to work in different areas) however most fdo at least 2 years of this . A post grad physio courese which specialises in animals is then taken (i think at the royal vetinary college however i may be mistaken)
to do physio at uni you need at least one science (most specify biology) and another 2 subjects at a2. sports science is sometimes specified but only as an alternative to bio (however at nottingham they said they would actually prefer sports science to bio as it's more practical)
most want a minimum of 3 B's at A2 (300 points) but now more and more want at least 1 A -really depends on the uni
hope my blabble has helped, if you pyou have any other questions i'd be happy to try and help (I have about 50 uni prospectuses at home - me and my bro's combined basically coverevery uni in the uk!)
