befor christmas I really felt that i got the canter right and was enjouying it, but i didn't ride for about a month, because of christmas and we had a lot of rain so the school kind of flooded, but for the last three lessons i feel like i am struggling to get into the canter again, i feel like i can't get myself into the canter, like i have a mental block or something, i don't really know how to explain it, yesterday Maggie threw me off ( didn't get hurt just some bruises), i don't blame her, i would have throan myself off long ago, she is very patient with me, my ri said that she is very relaxed and comfortable with me, is there some kind of visualization excersises or something, i am feeling so frustrated, why can't i do this anymore! please help

Can you get a lesson on the lunge, so that you don't have to think about actually getting the horse to canter, someone else will do it for you. That way, you can get used to the gait without having to worry about the aids or keeping him going. It's great for first time canter nerves!!! Totally worth the price of a whole lesson!

I had a lot of trouble with canter for a long, long time, but I've done it so much now, that's it's my favorite thing to do!! :) You'll get there, just takes time and as much practice as you can get!!!

Just relax. If you dont want to canter, dont. You will reach a point when you are ready and just go for it. I had a period when I refused to try. Now its not an issue in my head at all.
