If I know that I want to geld the horse (and unless he's showing amazing conformation/character and ability, I will always geld), I do so just before their second birthday in the months of February and March. Two reasons - one, because most colts tend to get really hormonal in the spring of their second birthday, so there's no point in aggrevating them. And two, if you geld in the colder months, it helps with the swelling and you don't have to contend with flies.

If your boy is "normal" meaning that both testicles have dropped, it should probably run you about $100-$150. (thats in Canadian dollars) so probably 70 pounds or so.

Also depends how the vet does it-standing or laying down with anesthetic. I personally really hate having my horses done standing up (seen one too many "accidents") but that'll be something you have to discuss with your vet.

You Have Been So Very Helpful Thankyou So Much
I Would Rather Pay More If It Means He Is Laying Down!

I would have colts gelded as soon as possible, it doesnt - from my experience change the development, they also put more into growing unstead of hormones!! We had 4 colts gelded the year before last and they cost around £250 each (inc VAT, antibiotics etc)- 2 stood and 2 down - different vets. So i would assume it will be similar for you - were in Notts.
