Okay, so my horse is ****y about his back right now, and my trainer says to keep out of the saddle as much as possible until the chiropractor can come ou to crack his back. The thing is, it's putting major stress on my ankles and it's throwing him off balance. Are there any other things I can do with him??? I need to keep him in training because Nationals are soon, and the chiropractor won't be here till next weekend. Any help would be very helpful. My horse needs it!!!!!!

I would just stop riding altogether if it is that bad that you have to stay out of the saddle. It isn't really fair on your horse is it?
You could be making it worse by continuing to ride - wait until the chiropracter has been & then ask his/her advice as to when you can start riding again.

Best thing you could do is not ride until you find out what the problem is.
Long rein or lunge in the meantime, but if it is showing in work of any type I would allow rest.

Stop riding and don't start again until he's been seen and treated by the chiropractor. No competition is worth risking your horses health for.

I wouldn't lunge if it was a back problem either until you know where the problem is and if it can cope with the stress lunging puts on the body.

Yeah, I definitely wouldn't ride until you know what the problem is and its been treated - not fair on the horse really, and yes, I agree that lunging is quite hard going - so I wouldn't do that either. I'd be tempted to just take your horse for walks in hand and generally take it easy.

I'm another one who would stop riding.
Its really not worth it, not even for the 'nationals', if you don't get off her back now you could end up with long term problems and believe me, that is no fun.

I called the Chiropractor, and he came out a couple hours ago, he just needed a good loosening up. I can ride him at the walk and trot tomorrow, and he'll be feeling alot better and jumping by Monday. He's such a good horse, you know, and I wouldn't want him to miss Nationals. I'm so glad there's no problems!!
