Hiya
I took Xena on a hack today.
It was all going great and we were just going down a busy road (shes 100% fine in traffic!) and a huge yellow lorry went past and she didnt bat an eyelid.
So we carried on down the road. Then there must have been some building work as there was a screech of builders machinery!
It was then when she played up she started to back up so i encouraged her to go forward. We were on the main road so i would have to sort her out quickly.
So after 10seconds of her skitting out on the road i got off, crossed her stirrups over then lead her until we turned off down a lane to get to the bridleway.
I was so annoyed as shes fine in traffic but then skits out when she hears noisy machinery. But anyway i gave her a stroke and a few pats to calm her down. Trotted her down the quiet lane and she was good again, until we came to the end of the lane which leads to the bridleway.
Then she stopped again and started walking backwards. And whatever i did she would resist and try and go the opposite way!
She had her mind set to walking backwards. So i got off again and lead her past some hay bales (which were wrapped in green plastic) and then opened the gate.
Then i thought i would have had to get off then as it was an akward gate to open!
So i got back on and she was brilliant after that. We went up hill for abit and she was soo calm and we had a little trot then i got up to the flat bit and we had a wonderful canter :D
I just wished there was some logs to jump aswell.
By then the sun was beating down and i was completely worn out from walking and wearing too many layers lol.

So we made our way back having a few trots and she was good as gold. And 100% in traffic
I was so pleased with her. Especially when we had to go down a steep road, shes so good with her feet :)

So i think she will get better with time, and i think i will ask some people to go on a hack with me, but i am new there so i dont know many people.

Anyway some advice needed for skittish horses on the roads, as its so dangerous. And before you ask yes i did have a tabard on :)
Thanks
