Hi
When I've finished my Level 1 Lingfield Equine Care & Management course, I was looking at doing a short course on horse psychology.
I know Lingfield do such a course as well as Equistudy.
Does anybody have any experience of any of these courses or any different ones?
Thanks!:D

i have a friend who does the equine behaviour course from the natural animal centre, and it is supposet to be really good!:) at the end of the courses you are qualified as a behavourist

The only things that I will say about Lingfield is that their short courses aren't a qualification as such and they can be rather narrow minded especially when it comes to equine psychology/natural horsemanship type topics. If you don't agree with their perspective then you're wrong, there's very little room for discussion.
Intelligent Horsemanship do some good courses on Equine Psychology etc.
The girl who rides Saffy for me will probably have some good ideas too, I should be speaking to her later so I'll ask :)

Hi Bay Mare, yes I've noticed with Lingfield Equine Care & Management, seems very perscriptive and doesn't allow for other methods. For instance the bitting section in Level 1, the best bit to use is a thick snaffle, but if your horse has a thick tongue these could be very uncomfortable. I suppose as you are able to sit the BHS HOC exam, then it's not surprising there is a BHS and a more rigid leaning.
Yes, something with a bit more room for discussion of different methods would be interesting, that takes into account different NH methods etc.
I'm not too sure about the Natural Animal Centre, I'm sure they know what they are doing and talking about, but TBH I've never really got on with their articles in the Horse & Rider magazine. No offence Michelle C:) , it would be a boring place if we all went along the same road!

no probs, i read ther articles and it answers quite a few questions i was unsure of. they do use scientific studies and do alot of research on wild horses though!! everyone to their own though :)

IH do a weekend horse psychology course, people I know have done it really rated it. It's next on my tick list :) I don't rate what I've read from the Simpsons personally, there's plenty of good stuff in there but some of their assertions appear to be a bit off to me. They seem to have jumped from one end of the spectrum to the other and there's too much negative reinforcement = bad in their stuff now.

Yes, the IH psychology course does look good, but sadly I can't justify a weekend away at moment:( .
Maybe something distance learning, that takes into account different perspectives from traditional BHS style to other NH ideas and horse psychology/behaviour and how it all interacts.
Maybe such as thing doesn't exist! Hmm, maybe we should all club together on NR and design our own course, there are so many different views and experience, bet we could do a good one!:p
