Has anyone got any videos of them doing a Prelim test or know where I can find one?
I am starting Dressage with Katey and I need to know what a normal prelim test looks like.
Thanks!!!

No videos soz. But it is just basic walk trot and canter, and 20m or 15m circles. Nothing too taxing. Thing there is copies of tests on www.dressagediagrams.com

I've got a video of me and Shearer doing a prelim last summer but it's on a disk and doesn't upload onto my computer and let me save it like it does it with pictures it just goes onto the movie thing :o I'll try recording it off my TV and post if it works!

Videoed it- It's in 3 seperate videos because my camera only records 1 min clips!

Here's the link to the first one, if you click the back button 2 and 3 are after ;) 3's gone a bit weird where i've videoed them off the TV, but it's basically walk on a long rein- trot a half circle and finish :)

Yep they do work!!Thanks they helped as well!!
Does the horse have to be on the bit?
Katey is a pony and I would only be doing it for fun but I obviously want to get a good score.
What would I have to wear as well?
I have a blue showing jacket, cream jodhs, black jodh boots and black chaps, white gloves and a shirt and tie.
My hat is a ventilated one although I am thinking of getting a new one.
And would I have to wear a hairnet?

For unaffiliated prelim there's lots of people who enter as a starting point for their horses even if they're not likely to do a perfect test and not really expecting to win anything but just for fun, so although in order to achieve good marks you need your horse to be working correctly, it's not essential that you're both perfect ;) I would suggest having some dressage lessons though so there's someone who can help. The sheet you get at the end of your test with the comments and marks can be very helpful in helping you see where you're going wrong and what you need to work on.

Your clothes sound fine, apart from i'd avoid white gloves unless you've got perfect hands as it just highlights every movement you make with your hands! It also makes you look a bit like Mickey Mouse IMO! :p And yep you'd either need to wear a hairnet or have your hair plated etc.

Also what tack is she wearing atm?

She has a black bridle with a double-jointed hanging cheek snaffle and a quite straight cut black/brown saddle. She has a black girth(she is a dark bay) and I am in the process of buying her a white numnah.
Ok I definately won't go with the white gloves!!

Have a look on Ebay because you can buy videos of the tests to give you a good idea of how they go and what is expected. They give you a commentary pointing out the things that you need to work on and get right. They seem a very useful tool !!

Good luck with your new venture

There's a new web-site which has videos of the prelim and novice tests.

It costs £30 to join.

http://www.myonlinedressage.com/

Below is info quoted from another BB.

I have spent about a year producing a different style of website containing 25 videos of Preliminaryand Novice disciplines of British Dressage.
Julie Hugo, who rides at Grand Prix level, and her team have produced an online clinic to help aspiring young riders raise their game and performance in the arena.
All filmed at UNEX Towerlands the International arena.
To balance the programme we also include comments from an international judge on what she sees! Attire and rules.
www.myonlinedressage.com also includes a forum chat page, free classifieds and photo section.....ENJOY

Edited to add: Just looked at the BD Dressage thread, it refers to the same website.

i think with prelim its more about riding the test accurately rather than achieving a nice outline

good luck with it :)

Lol I wear white gloves, as you can see...as long as your pony doesn't do this, you'll be fine!
