hey

i no there was a thread a few weeks back about this, and that is what made me think. i have since then been looking into becoming a groom for my local devision i have finally managed to contact my local station for some advice(could find any on internet etc) and they said to write a letter to the chief constable, so if they know i have shown interest.

well i have constructed a letter but i am very unsre about what to write and how to lay it out, so if you wonderful NR people could have a look at the letter i will try and attatch, and tell me what you think that would be great.

if there is anything you think i should include or take out please let me know.

thank you in advance

I think your letter seems fine - it is to the point and explains where exactly you are coming from. :)

Good luck to!! sorry I just added that in quick before!

I remember Manchester Met used to advertise for Grooms in the Manchester Evening news.

They paid well, and you got alot of perks to..than a normal grooms job. I expect the standards are sky high on the yard.. but I like to work somewhere, where you can take a pride in the horse and yard you are representing.

What are you actually wanting to do? Only that letter reads as though you want a part time job to gain experience for whatever you move into next. That's fine, if that's what you're looknig for, but if you're after a full time job, I think it needs re-wording (I'd be happy to help..).

If it is a part time temporary position you're after, my only nit pick would be the first comma in paragraph 1 - it would read better as a full stop.

Good luck :)

hi

thank you for your quick replys.

Ross - yes it would really only be a part time temporary job(well about the next yr n 1/2).

i will change the comma as mentioned

thank you any more input welcome.

what do people think to maybe adding about your conversation with the station..after making enquires etc etc... It shows you have initutive (sp) eek and can get of your own back.

I think it may be a good idea to mention that you have spoken to them and they suggested you write - it does show how keen you are to pursue it.

This is a article on the day of a police groom: http://www.gmp.police.uk/mainsite/pages/mountedgroom.htm

And this is the South Wales Police Force website... http://www.south-wales.police.uk/fe/master_auth.asp?n1=7&n2=459

and this is another:

I think the only mounted branch is in Cardiff..... I will ask my friend...she lives nearby

I'm not sure if you've put in too much info there. If I was you, I'd be writing a much more general 'I'm interested in working as a part-time groom for the mounted position, do you have any relevant positions vacant at the moment or in the near future?' letter. At this stage, I wouldn't really bother saying what you've done or not done, because you're not sure if there's any vacancies.

Good luck with it. I remember the manchester force advertising for grooms in the H&H, but it always seemed like they wanted people with plenty of experience of working on a yard.

not quite sure why they have told you to write to the chief constable:confused:

probably would be better to call the switch board and ask for the number for personnel for the mounted branch. it will be them who deal with the jobs side of things. i would suggest the chief constable wont open it themself and it will go around the houses before it gets to the correct department, if it gets there at all;)

probably best to give them a call and register your interest and then send a letter to back it up to the address they tell you too.

be warned they are usually long waiting lists as has been said above, they pay and conditions are quite good

good luck

just a quick reword if you haven't laready sent it- done loads of applications and read loads from people!! :o

I am interested in becoming a Stable hand/Groom for the South Wales mounted division. I would like to do this as I have always had a keen interest in horses and wish to base my career around them in the future.

I am 18 years of age, have ridden and been around horses since the age of 7,and have owned my own horse(s) since I was 14. I therefore feel i have a sound knowledge and understanding of the fundamental care and stable management involved in looking after them.

I am currently doing a BTEC HND in Animal Studies at Pencoed college (how long until you complete the course? ) which i thoroughly enjoy and think that a part time job involved in animal care would enable me to gain a further insight into a career in this sector in the future.

If you have any vacancies now or in the future i would be grateful if you could consider me for the post.

Please do not hesitate to contact me for a full CV and references.

I look forward to hearing from you and thankyou for your time.

Wow, the horses get checked throughout the night - thats good - sounds like its hard work being a groom for them tho - you'd have to be pretty keen, what with all that grooming, mane pulling and skipping out! Makes my routine with our pair seem pretty lazy................!!!
