Right, at the end of April is the North Hampshire Horse Show, and I'll be taking Lacey. It's a county show and getting placed there is pretty impressive (I remember when Willow did her second jumping class ever in her life there and came 6th, I cried) (I am working on getting her regestered btw, writing to ex ex owners and see where they got her from so I can contact those people to see if they know who her parents are, but she's a show jumper so it's not in my top list of to-do things)

I'm thinking of doing 2 jumping classes (2 foot 9 and 3 foot) and I want to do a working hunter class. I've done them on Willow and I think Lacey might do quite well in them because she jumps naturally at a hunting tempo and she's got good style.

However, they also have Mountain & Moorland working hunter. But that's only open to regestered horses, so would I be able to show her as a welsh in the working hunter, i.e. unplaited, or would I have to plait her to take part?

Also, before the list of working hunter classes, there's abullet point saying "Open to both registered and unregistered ponies". There's only 1 normal working hunter for under 15hh at 2 foot 3, but then there are also BSPS Restricted Working Hunter. These include more specific heights and rider ages, but it doesn't say anything about being regestered. Would we be able to enter these?

If I had to plait her, would I be marked down for golfballs (i.e. plaits looking like this:

[don't ask]) because although I know they would look better if her mane was pulled, she is a native and I think she looks best with a long mane.

I assume that the 2'3" is some sort of local/novice class. Normal BSPS height is 3'6" for 15hh. No you wouldn't show unplaited and yes the golfball look is not acceptable.

You can plait a native long mane but you will need to do more plaits, plait tighter and sew firmly to make them smaller.

I didn't think the NHHS was a County show.. ?

No, it's not. A lovely show with some qualifiers though.

When the WHP classes say 'open to registered and non-registered', they mean registered with the BSPS, not with a breed society. For non-m&m WHP yes you'd be expected to be plaited (the bottom half of the mane looks fine in your pic, if you could get it looking like that all the way up you wouldn't look out of place ;)) You can enter the restricted classes as a non-BSPS member, but will have to abide by the rules of the BSPS regarding tack, turnout etc, which are on their website at www.britishshowponysociety.co.uk.

Oh well I assumed it was county because of M&Ms all needed to be regestered ect.

BY THE WAY I don't usually plait like that - I was trying to do an arrow/running plait but it kept falling out, and I literially had 10 minutes before I had to go to some stupid dressage where they had stated on the schedule you had to be plaited hence the golfballs.

I probably won't bother do the WHP there, 2 foot 3 is a bit too small for her and she's doing 3 foot show jumping so 3 foot 6 might be a tad too big -laughs-.

At normal local shows, like during the summer without a seperate M&M WHP, would I be able to show her unplaited as a welsh because they don't have a seperate one?

I do if there's no seperate one. If the M&M's are specifically catered for in their own class I think it's unfair to do the open as it were, but I have no problems doing Novice WHP if the M&M WHP is open. Dunno if that makes sense though :p

Unless it states that I can't in the schedule (in which case I don't enter that class) I go in unplaited, to all my classes.

So you're saying I should or shouldn't go into the novice WHP unplaited? xD
