Oops this was actually lesson 8. Time got away from me!
Jump lesson 8 started out wonderfully, as the all do (haha). I was back on my little Conneticut, my favorite, and did walk / trot / canter + rising trot no stirrups, rising trot 1 stirrup (ow ow) and 2 point no and one stirrup on both sides.
Then the jumps started. We did a single 2 foot cross rail at the trot and canter a few times, then added a 4 stride vertical at the end. Did trot in, canter out twice, trying to teach me to get a perfect 4 stride. So I did it again, sat down in the middle of the combination, told CT whoa, and got a perfect 4 stride and hunter jump over the vertical!! YAY me.
Then the fun started. I sat down 1 stride after the jump, looked right for the right corner of the arena, and CT lost his footing in the front and went down on his knees, throwing me off the right side and doing a little flip/roll over to the left side. I did a baseball-player type slide across the arena (hence the title to the post, that visor probably kept me from smashing up my face) and he rolled a little on his side.
I actually got up first, and was shocked to discover not a scratch on me, but poor CT has a swollen front left knee and a little cut, poor thing.
So now my pony is lame...hopefully he will be ok for next week. The RIs all looked him over and think it is just a bit of a twisting / strain injury, and that anti-inflammatories should be ok, but the vet will be out in the morning just to check him over.
So that was my excitement for tonight...Jump Lesson 8, Fall #2!!
On a good note, fiance had an accidental canter at the end of his lesson tonight (RS ponies anticipate canter in the last five minutes of their lessons, so when Mark got a little enthusiastic asking for trot, he got canter! :D ) and sat it beautifully, rode it out and didn't pull or anything, just brought his horse back to trot.
So we made it though the night unscathed...
