Indy had another new rider today.... and we went out on her first "hack". She was an angel again. I'm really proud....

(I do, naturally, have photos - if anyone's interested....) :)

Son's girlf - Shannon.... had to sell her own pony to go to Uni so really missing riding at the mo, couldn't WAIT to get up on Indy :D Shan is only about 5' tall so is used to riding 13 handers AND has helped back ponies before.

So.... Indy was being her usual charming, casual self so we risked it and went straight to mounting from an upturned metal bucket. I led her round the yard a bit with no rein contact...

Still no rein contact... Indy looking terrified as usual
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a179/domane/2007_021717thfeb0002.jpg

Then we took up a contact.... "Urgh! Woss goin' on? Can't move my head like I could....?"
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a179/domane/2007_021717thfeb0007.jpg

Anyway, Inds was being so good and I don't actually trust that concrete in the yard, she has slipped and gone over before... so I suggested going a little further afield....

Coming back along the dead-end lane outside the yard...

Indy was still behaving impeccably so we decided to go a little further afield. Shan dismounted her (no reaction from ponio) and I led her across and along the main road into the quiet road where Dom and I had led her out a fortnight ago ( I do actually lead her on the off-side when on the main road so I am between her and the traffic - but not a good time to try to get photos... road is 60mph and some lovely people continue at that speed regardless).

Anyway, once we got into the quiet lane, Shannon remounted from the ground - again, not an ear flick from Indy.... she didn't seem to mind at all, and we all proceeded up the lane, past a potentially scary dog kennels where all the dogs were barking and throwing themselves at their cage doors. Indy pricked her ears in interest at the noise but did not tense. She got more excited coming back when we met a pair of horses being walked along in their rugs and turnout hoodies "Batman and Robin" - I christened them!! She whinnied and arched her neck, to show how interesting she was... but they turned off through a gate and we proceeded on calmly.

All the while we were practising a gentle stop and start, with a little encouragement from Shan's calves backing up the command to "Walk-on" and a gentle pressure on the reins combined with a "Whoa-oh!" - she seemed to pick it up quickly and I was just holding the lead rein as a back up.

Got back to the yard and decided to see how well Indy would cope unclipped. I walked beside her and then it all went to pot... not drastically, but she wouldn't respond to the walk-on command or the leg pressure and just stood looking at me in a confused manner, bless her.

"Walk-on? Eh? I don't understand anymore??? Where's that leadrope gone???"

So we decided that she had been through a lot for one day anyway. I clipped the rein back on and led her once more round the yard and then finished another great session with a lavishing of love and cuddles...

Hey thats us! We realised it was you but Shandy hadn't been out for 6 weeks and had been rearing all up the road so couldn't stop to chat as thought he might scare Indy. So sighs of relief all round when we made it safely to field.

She looked as if she was being a really good girl though unlike "Batman" or maybe he is the boy wonder:rolleyes:

Hello Jakey's Mum :) I met up with your Mum a couple of times a few years ago around the time that she sent Shandy to Gary W's. I oftened wondered how things were going and whether she still had Shandy. Why has he been in for 6 weeks - has he been poorly? Say hello to your Mum for me :D

Indy is very good for a youngster. You have got a real gem there when you come to sell her on....That is if you can bear to part with her now....;)

She has to go guys or I will have TWO that I can't ride!!!! :(

Remember how I introduced her as my "Project Pony"???

(Chez is really only fit for walking and I really, really want something I can do more than that with.....)

Yeah, yeah, I bet when it comes down to it, you'll magically be able to afford THREE... and you'll justify keeping Indy for Shanny to ride, and half the local kids, and because, well, you can't just have two, can you.... if you have two and you take one out to ride, that leaves one alone.. so Indy will have to stay as a companion if nothing else.... but, oh gosh! What happens when you and Shanny/assorted kids from neighbourhood go out together- you on new horse, Shanny/kid on Indy...still that leaves Chez alone.... better get another one too then I think;) :p

Have just read this to Dom... he says I should sell Indy AND Chez and then there will be no-one to leave alone....

Any more comments like that and HE'll be the one left alone..... by ME!!!

Hmmmm, have you mentioned my forthcoming visit to Dom... I bet he'll change his tune if he's faced with BOTH of us glaring at him with hands on hips;)
