I'm not male, I'm a female but I just wanted to say try and get ones with pleats in the front they are not as tight around your wotsits then other kinds, so will make you look as you put it, less 'gay'. :p :D Hope that helps. :)

Hi Marc

I'm not a boy, but my partner rides. He prefers the jods that look like jeans, I think Hac-tac make them, although I am sure there are other brands too. I would try and go for something that isn't too tight, and not too shiny lycra, sort of more cotton type material. I think pleated fronts also flatter males more too.

PS Ignore your sis - what does she know! :p

Welcome to NR :p

I'm a girl and - Your sister is just winding you up :p I'm 14 and i know a few boys that ride, and i don't think they're gay at all - I think it's cool!

Why not get black breeches more of a boyish colour if your really worried about it :)

I am well past the point of caring what people think but for the record no-one has ever hurled abuse at me or called me 'gay' when wearing breeches. Mind you I do remember being concerned about it once. However once you've taken the plunge it's fine. No-one bats an eyelid. Your sister maybe the only one to say anything but that's sisters for you. If she says anything just respond with something like this:

"Oh I love you sis. You're so funny. Come here and have a hug". She'll soon shut up.

I avoid beige/cream colours except when competing when I wear white. Otherwise I wear khaki or dark colours. There are some sensibly coloured, reasonably priced ones in the Dublin and Mark Todd range. I also detest pleated ones. Breeches are a practical item of sports clothing so why is there a need to be coy. I like the extra, er, support non-pleated ones give me. Don't get me wrong, I'm not into flashing either, but a sensible length sweatshirt/jacket etc. protects ones modesty methinks. Stuff your sister and get whatever breeches you feel comfortable with.

I ride with alot of guys....and trust me, wear jeans!!! Alot of the english riders that are guys at my barn, just wear jeans while schooling, with paddock boots and half chaps. But if you want to wear breeches, then get some that are looser, becuase they will be much more comfortable for you guys...........umm...........next please.

But I agree with tommy, darker colors tend to look alot better. And any stupid person who would call you gay for wearing breeches and riding, are just that...stupid.

Just look at all the sucessful male riders......some are gay, but others are married....to women.....anyways.

Good Luck with all that, and just remember, alot of guys kick ass at english riding.

HI there welcome to NR! :D

I have been riding for 8 months now and only not quite two weeks ago i bought riding pants. I was a little worryed about getting them since i have to travel for a long time on a train to get there and didn't want to look out of place. lol. I use to ride in jeans but they ended up rubbing my legs now. so my RI said to get some. i got a black pair and i wear them too and from riding now.

my friend said to me to tell people that give me ****. that i am doing a sport where it is pretty much girls and so i am the smart one lol. but yeah honestly when u get them and start wearing them u will feal fine in the end.

hope this has helped :D

Yeah but Fancy_mover is from across the pond so don't listen to her marc! We British are proud to wear Breeches and not be ashamed. I'm wearing mine right now cos I can't bothered to change since this mornings ride. Tight things will never look massively attractive on anyone, male or female, unless of an OK'ish shape and size. I maintain they are very comfortable and practical, that's what they are for so when you think about it, it is a bit of a weird thing to be embarrassed about.

Breeches, boots and half chaps... always a winning combo on a man, make sure you get yourself some nice supportive pants (Calvin Klein do these lovely ones, they've got a red waist band)

...*has wondered off thinking about OH kitted out for riding*

*snapped back to reality as he would never go near a horse in the first place*

yeah dark breeches look way better than light ones. an equine lecturer (a very large man) at my uni wears light breeches and they seem to make his ass widen!

have fun xx

I'm a 23 year-old male. I've yet to see another male rider around the stables so hey I have to set my own mini male ridding fahion! I just wear light coloured jods cos they where the best fit out of the limited selection available localy, don't really care if it is or isn't the done thing they're just practical items of clothing.
