Get some books on jumping, the correct position, blah blah blah. And maybe you should try holding the position at the trot and canter, and try it over poles before going to the cross bars. That's how I first learned to jump. And if you're worried about falling off, don't come far out of the saddle, but maybe into a three point. And grab some of the horses mane.
If you try the trot poles, trot towards the pole, and several feet before it, rise into the correct jumping position, and as soon as you feel your horse clear the pole, sit down. Try this several times, then try it over a low crossbar. Don't lose your confidence; you can't let your horse do everything. And take one step at a time.
I remember the first time I jumped. I almost fell off too. But now, I think back to that first time, and realize that if I had quit, then I wouldn't be where I am now.
Keep trying, and good luck!
