what is the competition structure for BSJA... and how do you grade a horse? i am completely confused about this malarky...

What do you mean by competition structure? Height of fences, names of competitions, qualifying comps or something else?

Also - are you senior or junior?

YOU don't grade the horse, the BSJA does that! When you first register the horse, he/she will go in as grade C & work their way up when they have won enough money (unless they are imported & then they are graded by age!)
