Right now I know what a 20 metre circle is. So that is what was worked on today in walk and trot. Then we did this clover shaped thing that involved going over a then doing a circle (much smaller than 20 m) then over another pole to make a shape like a four leaf clover - has anyone done that?

Just one question my instructor mentioned something about a correct 20m circle takes 26 strides. Has anyone heard of that before? This is all new to me!

So it was a great lesson, leg stayed in the right place and my hands were looking better apart from some tension at times and me being confused at times over what to do with the outside and inside rein!

At the end we did a barrells so much tighter turns but lots of fun!

God this horse riding is addictive! I am going again Sunday and hope to be able to increase to being able to do two lessons a week! Its very inconvienient to have to work!

may have done clover leaf exercise but normal just do figure of eights and random things over poles.

It depends what size horse you're on as to how many strides you'll take round a 20m circle --> compare a shetland to a 17hh friesian for example, unless she meant the average. i have heard of counting the strides round a circle but that was so that we could do shortening and lengthening and check that it happened. it was also an accuracy test, trying to get my pony to take 7 (or 8 - can't remember as it was last year) strides per quarter of the circle.

Hi Have never heard of the clover exercise before - I've always done figures of 8 before but then maybe its something to do with the stage I'm at - haven't done pole work at all as yet.

I wanted to say I totally agree with the comment about this being totally addictive - I just can't seem to get enough and not having money doesn't stop me either:D having to work or do anything else is a real pain
