Hey everyone...thought i would put some new piccies up!!

well the baby i have has been doing ok recently, she has done the Winter Novice qualifers, and was placed in 2 of the warm ups, and the last qualifer we did, she was 10th. (bare in mind that the classes had a least 90 in! lol!)

she got to the second round in 2 of them and had 4 flts!!(up to 1.20/1.25)..BUT she has never jumped bigger than a 1.10 as shes very spooky and a big baby.

You said your horse is very spooky, I ride this horse that is almost afraid of his own shadow. He jumps ok well brill as a beginner but i wondered, him being scared will it hold him back? has it held yours back to /did you find any problems. The boy i ride when you walk around jump hes a bit scared of it, but going towards it he is no, he really likes jumping. Sorry not really related to your thread, but reading it i thought i would ask your opinion. Nice pictures too, very lovely horse

Well, its held her back a bit, shes 7 this year, but only started work as a late 5 year old, purley because she needed that extra year to grow up- i think it was important she had that- we didnt want to rush her. Shes been jumping for about 14 months now.
Its quite good having a spooky horse, as i have found, they tend to be ultra careful, but need a bit longer on the lower heights, and getting used to everything.

thanks everyone!

Thanks for that, its reallt reassuring to know that a horse can look and jump as good as yours even if its a spooky horse, and do it well!

Oh I just though, how did you get her used to being in an indoor school and all the shows, the new situations? Was she ok with them, or cared at stuff like that too?

Oh I just though, how did you get her used to being in an indoor school and all the shows, the new situations? Was she ok with them, or cared at stuff like that too?

just start really small..i took her to unaffiliated first at a really big arena, they took all the fillers out and we had lots of time in between the fences.
Arena UK- the pics above, that was her 1st time there, and yes she spooked, a lot, but she new what she was there for, and turned out to be insanely careful! ..i think the more you do with the spooky horses..like competing, the more they will come on, and understand what to do.
In new sistuatons, she still goes very babyish, but shes willing to take it in and have a go!

Believe it or not, at one venue, shes totally fine with everything..apart from a small road cone at the door. if theres a jump towards it, she goes up, sees the cone and spooks in the air, and has that fence! lol! so we have to do a warm up class before the main class! lol!

one thing that will help, that i was told by my trainer is keep them cantering forward at all times, after u have landed from one fence, sit up and go, not gallop, just going forward, even if they are spooking..it has to learn it has to jump no matter what! lol.
Once your horse knows it has to go forward into the fences, it will be much easier to place, as it will be taking you forward, instead of looking, all you have to do it support.

hope that helps?! lol

hello I am glad you like him, yes very helpful advice and good to know a spooky horse can be a good jumper, as I dont want to get a spooker and not do very well at showjumping
