Well it has been 7 months since his first Dentist visit which I was unable to attend.

Battery for camera fully charged, I headed off to the yard and FORGOT my blooming camera!!!

What a twit!!!

Anyway, my livery mate managed to take a few for me on her phone.

The dentist was just fabulous - a real gentleman who was so sweet with the horses, didn't rush them and was v.v.v. kind.

The gag went on.....

He confirmed, once again, that Cooper was only JUST 5 years old by pointing out the teeth that have come through.

I told him it was my first time in seeing the procedure done so he talked me through everything and encouraged me to put my hand up inside his mouth and feel the inner and outer edges of the teeth.

Really interesting.....

Coops was a good boy. He protested a little by raising his head but nothing else.

The dentist identified two baby teeth that were embedded in his gums and were causing a little swelling around them. Sometimes they come out with a flick of a nail or by using the end of a little surgical tool he had but unfortunately they didn't budge.

The dentist was concerned that as he was going to have to dig deeper that Coops would be in pain so he recommended that we twitch him:eek:

Another first for me!

3 mins later I had one of the teeth in my hand and the other landed in the shavings and Cooper happily accepted a carrot off me for being such a good boy.

Now the other interesting thing is that this guy works with the mounted police training their horses. We got around to talking about all the desensitising and he was v.v.v.v impressed with old Coops and what he is able to do BUT, guess what???

He had never thought of the Bubble wrap and thinks it is fabulous and is going to introduce it to his horses training!!!!

So, well done again Jane!!!!

Even more interesting is that he has invited me down to their place to watch the training in action:D

And even more interesting in that he is one of the riders that supported the Spanish Riding School show at Wembley and he rode at Olympia.

So what about that for an interesting day!

If any of you peeps in Surrey are looking for a really great and sympathetic equine dentist pm me and I will give you his details.

I'll get more pics the next time:)

Ah Bry had the dentist last week and I didn't get any pics of her with the cool clamp thing on.

Its is really interesting isnt it, I had a good old feel in Brys mouth.....she was sedated mind.

So Cooper has a clean bill of heath then.

Oh - WHAT a good boy! He doesn't look that bothered at all, does he. I hope you are going to put those teeth under your pillow for the equine fairies, Dee??? :p

Our EDT encourages you to get your arm in and have a good feel around too.... I haven't yet managed it but I will, you know me ;)

So now the bubble wrap is going to be used in the Mounted Police? I'm so proud... :o

That was funny Karen. You were replying to my post exactly the same time I was replying to yours.

Yes, he has a clean bill of health - onwards and upwards!!

I have been waiting to get these torturous pics for months - I couldn't believe it when I forgot the camera!

Not many EDT's will take teeth out without a vet present my end of the woods.... I have mixed feelings about teeth being flicked out. It would worry me that some tooth was left in and an infection was iminent..:o I just worry....:o

My EDT let me put my hand in Captain's mouth and feel the before and after effects of the visit. Which I found refreshing and gungy if I am honest. I felt as though I was checking for no sharp edges as well...:D

I've only watched our dentist briefly, rasping teeth and taking out little wolf teeth....but he didn't use one of those gag things, I wonder is that odd?! he just held mouth open with one hand and worked with the other, horse was very cooperative though.

Bless him, good old Cooperman takes everything in his stride, doesn't he?!:D

My dentist (well, Dolly's!) is very good too- explains everything as he goes along, doesn't rush and is very kind to the horses... well, he'd need to be or I wouldn't have him back!;)

Rips... I'm not sure that I've ever heard of a dentist NOT using a gag, and having seen what they do with rasps etc, I'm not sure I'd want to use a dentist who didn't use a gag... come to that, I'm not even sure that it would be possible to 'do the job' properly without one... but I may be wrong! I'll be interested to see what anyone else has to say:)

I hope the dentist gave Cooper a sticker for being a good boy!

I really like the tooth lady's visits. On her first hello to HQ, she brought along a phial of lavender oil which she wafted about ; a calming atmosphere- I nearly dropped off meself!

Last week we had a visit to see why Harley was leaning on the bit- there was some rasping to be done. Dentist used a gag for a while, then continued without the gag when horsey got a bit restive; it seemed to be fine.

Are you going to have 6 monthly visits, Dee? Our babies are at a stage where there are loads of changes in the mouth, huh?

Can you imagine doing that job all day? I really admire the dedication!

Your guy sounds great, and what a fab day with some exciting connections made!!

Pickles' dentist put the gag on to have a look, but actually did his teeth without the gag on, I think the wolf tooth was removed without the gag on too :D I was too busy having a wibble about the tooth coming out to remember,
I think it stands that a EDT has to be licenced to remove teeth, if they are not then the vet has to do it or be present while it is done?
but I am assumeing that it was one of Coopers' baby teeth? they are just sort of caps that cover the adult teeth, (I think thats how it is, very limited knowledge of teeth here :o )
