I have had enough of the other thread ...
As a fellow NR and someone who is, after over a year of horse ownership, still nervous and unsure about lots of things - just wanted to send you and Branston lots and lots of good wishes for your new life together, and I would love to hear how you are getting on :)

You two will be fine together, he really does look a wonderful, safe, kind cuddle monster.
I wish you two all the best and good luck, although I am pretty sure you won't need it, he sounds a gem.

I just wanted to say a quick thank to everyone who's been so kind as to PM me, or offer me support.. it means a great deal.. thank you :D I'd like to just forget the last thread and move on. Buying Brannie was meant to be an exciting time for me... and i'd like to keep it that way. So i won't be replying on the other thread again.
As for an update.. well... i spent almost an hour grooming him yesterday, trying to get all the caked-on mud off of my hairy mud monster! lol.. I'm sure i left bits behind.. he was just SOOOOO muddy! But he looked a thousand times better than when i started. hehe.. He actually had DREADLOCKS in his belly hair before i started on him!
He's all fluffy and teddy-bearish at the moment.. especially his belly.. but he's just beginning to moult, so is starting to get a few shiny polished-looking patches on his shoulders and bum. I can't wait to see his full summer coat! I've seen photos of his summer coat... and he's a stunner! :p
I went up to see him again this morning (i go thurs, fri, sat and sun, as he's on full livery right now, and i can't get there mon, tues, wed at the mo), but he'd just been turned out and i didn't want to bring him back in for grooming, as he was having such a lovely time.. in the mud.. again  lol... So i just went upto his field and spent a few minutes watching him having fun, then i had to go home as it's my daughter's 8th birthday today and i would have been in trouble if i'd been gone too long ;) Plus she's got chickenpox, so wasn't feeling 100%.
I can't wait to bring him home!!!! We've got a possible moving date at last! 9th March... possibly earlier. If i had it my way, we'd be moving tomorrow, but obviously i have to go with what's easiest for everyone, so it looks like 9th March is the day. Only 2 weeks to go! :D
I still haven't been able to ride Brannie yet. The saddler can't come out til 3rd march (next saturday)... so it looks like it's more grooming and getting to know each other for another week :) I've got someone coming with me next week when the saddler comes.. who's got more recent riding experience than me.. who's going to give me a hand.. seeing as i haven't ridden for 9 years! I can feel my bones creaking at the thought of it! lol.
Anyway.. we're doing fine! Apart from the fact that i miss him like crazy when i'm not there! :( But in two weeks we'll have 24/7 to get to know each other and bond properly :D
Thanks again everyone!
Beki xxxx

Maybe the saddler not coming for a week or so is fate! It gives you loads of time to build up tons of confidence and a special bond with him; so that when you do ride him for the first time it'll just be natural progression for you both - glad all is hunky dory!

Wishing you all the best with branston! :) I remember seeing him on Safecobs the first time around, about 2 years ago, and I fell in love with him but wasn't looking to buy at the time, but I remember thinking he'd be my perfect horse! So have lots of fun with him, and make sure you take loads of photos!

I would like to wish you all the best with Branston. I too remember him on the Safecobs website a few years ago and thought that he sounded perfect - very safe and quiet and such a suitable first horse. I was really dissapointed when he was sold, even though I wasn't even looking for a horse.
Have lots of fun with him and keep us updated on your progress.

Second all the others!:D
Spending time on the ground with your horse is a great way of building up trust and a bond with each other. You will know when you feel ready to ride!:D
