sorry if this is a rather stupid reply, but i thought that fox hunting was made illegal in 2005 or 2006. i live in london so i'm not sure what countryside laws are

Fox Hunting is now illegal in Britain, but you can still go out on drag hunts or 'hound excercise' I believe.
Best thing to do would be to find a local hunt and contact them for details.
(oh and try not to use text speak, I thought Id tell you before the mods did ;))

seems to me that like playing football without the ball, you wouldn't get the same thrill or buzz

You need to be fairly competent, especially if you are riding a horse you've never ridden before, Will you be riding your own horse or a rented one?
Getting in some XC experience, jumping natural types fences is useful.
Having a good seat and some stick-a-bility is the best thing!
Some hunts cater for non-jumping riders, but not all. If they did though this could be an option for you first time out.
You could follow part of a hunt on foot, to see what its like either.
Mounting from the ground and opening/closing gates mounted, these you can learn in the arena.
Practise riding in a forward/hunt seat, this you can also practise in the arena.

The OP received some valid information about how to find out more about drag hunting etc. Closing this now as to avoid another debate.
