Went to trailblazers yesterday, it was quite a spooky arena (for Fly anyway) and he's never jumped here before so we did the clear round twice and both were clear ...

First round done in trot to allow hime to see the monsters..

85cm class - scrappy round, both of us had had enough we didnt flow and we had the 1st pole down and he crashed into 7 when on a totally wrong stride. Poor turns to blame for both of these, we lost impulsion.

So those who know me know there are rarely any pics of me so I've made up for it here!!

Overall really pleased given 2 days before he'd thrown me off twice in a jumping lesson and I'm really pleased that he is now going forwards without any run outs napping or spooking. I reckon I can safely dispense with my clear round safety blanket too as he's proved he is confident enough to go into a new place and just jump and there were no 'scooby doo leg' turns!;)

I might come down but will probably be going to the Amateur show at Arena UK. I was only doing trailblazer stuff because of Rio but would have bought sylvester for the 95 & 105 otherwise I only do trailblazer if there is nothing on BSJA - I don't see the point in paying my membership & then jumping unaffiliated. Now that I'm not taking Rio out I prob won't do many TBs

As far as that course goes - it would be pretty standard for a well built BN course (obviously the fences would be higher & the spreads wider) at that venue. Some places are more twisty & there should be two combinations but that course yesterday flowed quite well - had a couple of related distances where the distances were correct (pretty unusual in unaffiliated!). I thought it was a nice course, no sharp turns or anything.

Discovery courses aren't usually any more difficult either (apart from the height of course) but some of the Amateur & open classes can be quite tricky but then again you could get a grade A horse competing at 90cms so they should be quite tough!

BN is 90cm right?

Yes BN is 90cm. I think the main difference in the build of the jump is that the spreads are ALWAYS at least 90cms too & they can go up to 1m - most pararells in unaff don't tend to be anywhere near as wide as in BSJA

DITZ
26th Feb 2007, 09:50 AM
yes good point about the spreads. I think I might take myself of to one of Matt Lannis training days on a Tuesday as Ive been there with my old horse and I know they are standard BSJA courses he uses.

Well done Ditz, both of you have come on a lot from what i remember of your stories of when you've been out before. You both look great. Do Vale View hire out facilities? Fantastic course, had heard about the indoor arena but never managed to get the time to go there yet for a nosey. Not up to standard myself so always chicken out :o

DITZ
5th Mar 2007, 03:57 PM
Yes they do hire out but I think its prohibitively expensive. They do a clear round training clinic on a Tuesday though which is usually run by Caroline Moore (although shes ill atm). She puts the fences up at whatever height you want them and then you do 2 rounds with instruction. Really useful if you wants some match practice without the hassle of building courses etc.

Yes she is very very good. Apparently shes got pheumonia at the moment and they are using visiting trainers atm. The clear round thing is really good, goes on from 1pm - 9pm and then she runs an actual jumping clinic each Friday at the same times too.

Can anyone tell me a little more about trailblazers? i.e. do you just do jumping or is there other aspects involved? I never took an interest before because I always thought the jumps were at least 1m??

DITZ
9th Mar 2007, 09:15 AM
theres dressage or jumping. Dressage is prelim, novice and elementary and you need to score 60%+ to qualify for 2nd rounds. SJ is generally 75, 85, 95 and 1.05 tho I have seen one venue doing 65cm. You need a double clear to qualify for 2nd rounds.

flintybaby
9th Mar 2007, 10:19 AM

Venues hold 1st rounds which if you get a double clear you get invited to go to the 2nd round held at the same venue. I think something like the top 6 in each venue then go through to the final. Pretty sure the heights are the same in all the rounds, so if you qualify at 85cm then you do the same height in the 2nd rounds. Not sure about the final but 99% sure its the same height again.

I didnt go yesterday as I realised that I am away for the 2nd rounds which meant that it would just be a play - and at £10 a round a rather expensive play!;) We went XC instead which was brill!

Newton is open now, they have closed a section off which is still wet but about 80% open, they've also added loads of new jumps too! We have a great time, did 5 jumps we'd never attempted before and 1 I could never get him over before. Great start to the season really - we havent been there for almost 5 months!

I assume Danethorpe is open again now too, I am hoping to go next weekend and practice before the ODE the following weekend.:D

Im hoping to go to Hykeham shows because I went to one last year and enjoyed it. My horse has moved to Retford so Ive been looking at that area for shows. Ive only really found Silver Horse Show and Hykeham though. Does anyone know of any others?

I do like it there too - did you manage to find somewhere to park!? Thats all thats put me off, its always been absolutely rammed in the car parking. Also found horse quite nappy when we went in through the top door (by the horsewalker?) but for the second class we went in through the bottom door and we were fine.

RE cross country, ssh I am trying to keep this a new found secret but you HAVE to visit this course: http://www-pontonchasers-co-uk.org/
Absoultly stunning even just for a hack around - but plenty to jump, nothing too scary (maybe thats in relative emma terms) and you don't have to jump a thing could just enjoy the 6 mile ride.
This place has been open most of the year, I went in February and it had beautiful ground.

DITZ
13th Mar 2007, 08:18 AM
Wow that place looks fantastic! Do you need to be a member of UKChasers to go? That is a very well kept secret I must say! I know theres supposed to be another nice one at Aylesford - have you been there yet?

As for Vale View, yes just managed to find somewhere but parking is a joke.

We're off to draycott on sunday, i'm being the grooming skivvy for two friends who are entering. Didn't realise Newton had opened already, brilliant, think that means that places like Aylesford might also be open as well. Think a friend was going to daynethorpe then opted for draycott, you'll have to let us know how it goes at daynethorpe.
I'm annoyed as was well on for starting off some x-country practice with my mare but now she's lame again and at the vets monday  Was lame last season too so missed it all last year. Think i might well try and borrow the little mare i've been hunting on this season, help me get some practice.

Hey, how did you get on? My friends ended up doing the 75-85cm pairs class and came second. Amazing, was dead chuffed as it was one of thems first ever "proper" outing.
How did you get on, which class did you do? It's a lovely place isn't it. Shame i didn't make it on sunday to watch, too much on

Was meant to be at a local show practice Sunday but pony out of action again due to lameness. :( So nope, although not sure if same friends are doing Daynethorpe which is the same day. Very peeved about not being able to get to anything again, was out of action from April-Oct last year too. Bloody horses. What classes are you doing at the hunter trials?

DITZ

I'm doing the novice class at 2'6 + Ironmaiden has a entry for the triers class I can use.

I had set my heart on doing the Danethorpe one but we are just not ready yet. I took him there on Saturday for a play and he was like a baby again.

The WHF one has an intermediate class at 3ft and an open class with optional open fences. Its not a great course but its another outing...

So is he settled in his showjumping now but not his x-country? 3ft!! Cor blimey no. Big up to you if you do that cos i certainly wouldn't have the ba**s :D

Danethorpe hasnt changed its course at all since last year. It is a nice course, my favourite one I think, very flowing and lots of room. And yes his sj is now ticked and I thought I might be able to Xc to the same level but not yet apparently:rolleyes:

Lol, lady after my own heart, 2ft6 is always about the right height. Although the first show i ever did was 2ft9 (i didn't realise). Went round with my eyes closed and blindly kicked. :p Bless the pony she was a saint that day.

Yeah our x-country is sadly lacking in finesse and style due to lameness/wussiness of rider :)
