i had my 1st ever group lesson on sunday and it was really good.
i learnt rising trott although im not very good at it :D(any one have any tips on it would be good) and after the lesson we went on a 1/2 hour hack across the downs.its funny because i felt alot safer in a group lesson than in a private lesson. thats about it oo yeah im riding a new horse next week which im looking forward to.
p.s.has any one heard of a shop called the hack 'n' tack shop in worthing and is it a good shop?

Hi that sounds great - how long have you been riding?
The half hour hack sounds good as well. I'm still working on rising trot so not the best person to give advice.

Sounds brilliant - I didn't get to hack until I'd been riding for about 3 months. My first time out I had an accident and so I haven't done much hacking since due to a lack of confidence. I like the idea of how your doing it though - hacking from the start and building that confidence along with riding skills sounds great.

Conglatulations on your lesson!
I prefer group lessons, more people to help and support you when your stuck and plus make friends and learn from eachothers mistakes/strengths. I've been in a group lesson since I came off the lunge (about 6 years ago :D) I love the support you get!
Anyway as with rising trot, its one of them things that you either get striaght away or dont. Luckily once you do understand it stick with you and you can improve tremendously (I now dont even have to look down to see if I'm on the right diagonal :) ).
Basically its just practise, practise, practise to get rising trot. I remeber all those years ago when I first learnt rising trot that counting in my head was a great benifit. Just going steadily 1-2-1-2 in your head or out loud to tell you when to rise and sit might help.
Or you could look at the outside foreleg of your ride and try and rise when it goes forward and sit when it comes back, eventually you will find the rhythm!
Good luck with your lessons as you progress!
Hope I've helped :)
