I've recently bought a pair of muck boot co long boots with the neoprene tops because I always had cold feet. I used to ride in toggi jod boots and half chaps, and since changing I have found my leg position to be much more stable, whether that is because my riding is getting better or because of the boots ???
Anyone else ride in muckboots and what is your preference ?

Both my daughters ride in muckboots as they find it easier to get off . They dont have a problem with them at all and I suppose find it very easy to ride in them as they look comftable enough in them

I have the Muck boot Tynes, which are designed for riding. Great for the long winters rides, but quite bulky for schooling, so i've started using my jodhpur boots and chaps again for schooling and my feet were all over the place last night!

So in that sense i think muck boots are more stable to ride in, keep your feet in place but arent too flexible, so harder to push your heels down.

I ride in the tynes all the time but they arent as flexible as normal boots due to the thick rubber.

i ride in the tynes always apart from at shows, is it much more stable but dont bend as easily....which i find is a good thing as it is much easier to keep your heels down in the show ring!

Jess' instructor won't let her ride in lessons with them on as she had a case recently where someone got their foot jammed in the stirrup and got dragged. Guess it happened because the boots are much bulkier than jod boots.

What happens now is Jess wears her muck boots to the yard but as soon as she rides she changes to her jod boots and chaps. A bit of a faff but she doesn't seem to mind. :D

I've never had a problem in riding in my Tynes, not as flexible (as has already been mentioned), but are ideal for those cold winter days.

The quality of the Tynes I am not as impressed with, though. I had my first pair last year, and they lasted around 8 months before they split and went downhill. I bought a new pair at the beginning of February. They split after 10days of average wear:eek:  Two splits down the back of each boot, then a split either side of where your foot bends on each boot - 8 splits in 10 days:eek: Not impressive when they cost close to £60 - this is the last pair I will ever be buying:mad:

Thats interesting, i've had my Tynes since xmas and had no problems whatsoever.

Is the going a bit tough round your area? Its just some people have theirs years, others have theirs days!

I wouldn't have said so, no:confused: I used them for riding, walking round the yard, wading through a muddy field, and walked to the yard a couple of times in them (2-3miles), and they just split. Am still using them now, but wading through the fields is crossed off the list - I send someone else instead...;) :p

Yes! I ride in mine. I find them quite comfy and have no probs with heels etc.

They are quite good for getting used to riding in long boots for shows etc.

I'll have to say I am disappointing too with the quality. I bought mine at the end of August and didn't really start wearing them until mid Oct. Already mine are beginning to split at the top in two places.

Sarah 1710 did you return yours to the shop/muckboot co?

Have to say I think they are fab but would seriously consider looking for an alternative if and when they need to be replaced.

so I gather by your replies, riding in muck boots is good :D

I just find them so easy to hose down after swamping through the mud, and personally I cant be bothered to start changing and putting on boots and chaps (which I hate putting on, the zip always gets stuck  )

I've got quite big calves and I have to find a pair of leather boots that fit comfortably. I tried the mountain horse high riders which fitted perfectly but they came up too high so when i bent my leg it dug in behind my knees.
Anyone else got bigger calves and have managed to find a nice comfy pair of riding boots ?

No, I didn't take them back. One of the tings I had meaning to do, but never got round to:o  I bought them on 1st Jan '07 (still have the receipt), so was thinking it is too late to take them back now?

Will certainly be considering alternatives for next winter.

I have a pair of Tyne muck boots which I ride in all the time, and I find them very comfy to ride in - I've never had a problem with my foot slipping or anything. After about 8 months of daily use they have split down the side of each foot - I don't really think that is too bad going though!

I got the muck boots because I've got broad calves too, and find it difficult to get boots to fit. I did buy a pair of MH boots, but didn't want to get them too mucky traipsing through muddy fields! I find my Muck Boots just as comfy to ride in as my MH leather boots though.

Oh - meant to say, apparently Shires do a cheaper version of the muck boot - not sure if it's suitable for riding in though.

I ride in muckboots too. May return to jodphur boots again in the drier weather but at the moment there is noway I am going to keep swapping boots. It's bad enough swapping from muckboots to wellies when I have to go into the field without have to swap for yet another pair of boots

I do! I don't mind riding in them, and I am very fussy about what I ride in. I can't ride in trainers, wellies, short muckers, short boots on their own, but I loove my Ariat boots&gaiters, and my longg muckers. They're fabb!

Go for it! It is absolutely not too late.

I would be bringing mine back (bought last August) only I don't have a receipt and have thrown the boxes.

I'm sure if I caused a fuss with the company and missed the tack shop completely that they might swap them but I have no proof of age.:o

Yea we believe you...:D.

Do you swap to wellies when going to the field? I wear my Tynes in the deepest of mud, they are called 'muck'boots after all ;).

Ive had my tynes for 3 years, and theyre still waterproof and crackless! Theyve had horses jumping on them (literally, broke my foot  ), me falling off, fighting my way thru mud knee deep (literally), jumping and general yard work.

They get worn daily in winter, and for heavy yard work in summer. My feet get too hot in them in summer so i wear my ariats.

And how on earth did you get them to last that long?! Spill the secret;)

I still have the original box and receipt, so will try questioning the tack shop I bought them from this weekend.

Great for when in muck that doesn't come to well above the level of the muck boots. Our fields are somewhat boggy at the mo :(

I bought my Tynes for riding in, but I find I prefer to change into leather boots for riding; the Tynes are too rigid for me. They are comfy, warm and waterproof, but if I was buying them again I think I'd go for the cheaper, non-riding version. They're great for trudging through the mud in though, especially in the suckier patches.

Hi, ive had my muckboots a couple of years and i wear them in the field and when riding. They are great because theyre nice and warm in the winter and of course the bottoms are waterproof. They get a hosing when theyre looking especially grubby but thats about it. They are the purple ones so theyre really bright! :)

Muck boots may be comfortable but you shouldnt ride in them, I used to but came to my senses when I was told that the person who oens the tack shop do not recommend muck boots to ride in. They are unsafe, imagin if it gets stuck in the stirrop and you're dragged along behind?! This can happen with jodhpur boots, but less likely as muck boots are so bulky! I wear thinck socks with my jod boots and they keep me warm, I cannot stress how much not to wear muck boots riding, it is dangerous

Hi!
i have tried to ride in muck boots but just done feel comfortable, they are just like padded weligtons, much rather ware long boots, plus long boots do look great!

my muckers have a really squidgy heel aswell so i have to really 'boot' my horse or she genuinly doesnt seem to feel it (considering she goes of the slightest nudge in joddy boots).

I got a pair for riding in as the 'wellie' type ones were so comfortable. They are good as you don't need to wear half chaps and they are comfy but I have been having a bit of trouble getting them off as they have not worn in yet! Sometimes it takes ten minutes!
