I use a really thick fleece saddle cloth (teddy bear design!) under my treeless. Frayne is the ultimate in round/flat back/no withers - and we have very steep hills around here - but the saddle never moves, and she is very comfy :) I am looking for a reasonably priced special treeless (the type which creates a gullet) pad (not willing to pay around £75!) for when we do longer rides, but this fleecy one seems very good for now (it was from an Ebay seller and didn't cost that much).

I have a regular Skito for my Torsion and a Skito Dryback for the Sensation (wish I had gotten the dryback in both!)
Skitos are so highly customizable. They suggest 100% wool fleece for slipping problems but also offer acrylic/wool blends. We got the 100% wool though.
I don't think you can get Skitos outside of the US but the wool vs blend may be something to keep in mind when shopping around...

I have an old Balance Griffin and an 'ergopad' -like the suber but cheaper and less full.

KarinUS - how do you rate your Sensation Saddle? I've been looking to get one myself.
Skito pads are available in UK, but I don't know if you can get all the different types. I know they are recommended for the Sensation.

I use a Haf Airnet pad under my Freeform. It's a fab pad and shimmable :) Totally worth the money imho! :)

My own should arrive any day now but it hasn't gotten here yet! :(
I did demo one for a week and LOVED it. I am getting the G3 English Trail model. For English riding I like it so much better than the Torsion. I thought the multi-point-stirrup-attachment would be weird but it was no problem at all. I loved the structure of the saddle and how much it felt like my treed saddle. And it's nice that you can set the stirrups back a bit. Also loved the Sensation girth.
If you get a chance to demo one, Doris, you should.

KarinUS - yes, I'm working my towards getting the Sensation. Linda Tellington Jones' sister, Robyn uses them a lot for her Icelandics (she breeds them in Canada), so I've seen them, and sat in one on one of my tteam courses.

any one do you think a poly pad would be ok, my mare has withers but not high?

I wouldn't recommend a poly pad, Michelle. All the ones I've seen have a centre seam which if used under a treeless without a gullet, will rub.

oh right! i had a child ride my mare for a while, about 3/4 of an hour each time, cantering turning and jumping, the poly pad was thinner than the one i just bought and it didnt move or rub. my mare tells me exactly when things arnt right so will have to see what she thinks:p
Question
if the saddle has no hard parts touching the spine, why do you need spine clerance when you dont seem to need the clerance when using a bareback pad? :)
any one have any thoughts?

You do need spine clearance if using a bareback pad with stirrups for any length of time otherwise you get pressure points under the stirrups.

just had a dizzy moment!!!! of course there will be more pressure if using stirrups than without!!! thanx for making me realise

any way:p i think i will see how she goes in the poly pad, and if she shows signs of discomfort, go to plan B, (not sure what that is yet) :D
