:confused: hiya, i was just after some trot advice,i was wondering if you literally stood up using the stirrups or if it is more a backwards forwards motion with a slight rise?im a bit confused on the whole subject! thankyou! love and horse kisses rainbow angel

Hi its more of a forward motion - it can depend on the horse put I think the theory is that the horses movement slightly raises you out of the saddle. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I think you should really only rise a couple of inches or so.

Yep, pelvis goes up on a diagonal rather than a straight up and down movement.
Riders often feel unbalanced or slap back into the saddle because they rise up too much and then rush to get the down portion of the trot in.
My horse has a very bouncy trot but even so I need to actually 'rise' very little.

Then if I'm also correct slowing the rising will also slow the horse - some horses do naturally have a quick/bouncy trot though.
