Just wanted to feedback briefly after all the helpful advice about dealing with suddenly frisky horse.
We have cut out the Pasture Mix and replaced it with a small feed of HiFi and a handful of pony nuts after schooling or hacking.
Mixing high grade hay half and half with coarser grade.
Working on the hacking with moving forwards, flexion, and very light contact - tried dropping the rein almost completely when a fight starts, only to find said horse drops his head, relaxes and calms down. OK, so I am a complete idiot not to have realised this and most of you may have done it automatically but it does take confidence to drop the reins when your horse appears to want to get into the next county.
Btw,I was interested to be told by our local feedstore, that definition of "light work" is actually about an hour a day, while most people assume its less than this. She also said that LOADS of people have problems on Pasture Mix.
