I have been given a lovely leather breast plate for Lily but it has sat around and gone a bit mouldy, it has come up a treat and is a really good one but still smells very foisty.
Any tips on how to get rid of this awful smell ? It doesn't smell of leather anymore :(

Well....
I have been known to stick bits of putrid tack in the washing machine for a whirl! Provided I haven't let them dry too quickly afterwards & have bunged on some Neatfsoot oil before soaping them, they have emerged unscathed. I machine wash leather gloves that are filthy too, if they go stiff & dry out I find a splash of facial moisturiser supples them up without making them too slippery to ride in.

I may be onto a winner....will let you know tomorrow if it worked but smell has gone for now.
I put it in a bowl of hot soapy water, dried it, used tack cleaner, let it dry then I spotted the bottle of antibacterial hand gel on the window sill and ive given it a go over with that, it seems to not smell at the mo but its drying out under the radiator.
If the smell hasn't returned by tomorrow I will give it a soap and a polish :D

If it's stiff, get some heavily scented hand cream and rub that into it. I use handcream on my leather gloves (but not heavily scented stuff) and it works a treat.

i used to use something in a red tin for that very purpose. Can't remeber waht its called something like coach line, the tin was red and gold and had a carriage and horses on it. The stuff itself was red.
you slather the leather with it and it softens up and smells nice.
sorry can't help further, probably had too much lemonade last night with my Pimms!!

Mr DCBags - Do you mean Ko-Cho-Line?? Sure thats how its spelt. Its in a red/gold tin and the stuff inside it is red.
Is that what you mean?
Never used it but I know a few people who think its great, worth a try.
