i had my second lesson today, it wasnt as good as last week as my horse was much harder to steer and i felt my control of him was awful, my ri said that smudge my horse last week only needed gentle steering but oscar needed alot more hard work! however, my ri instructor said that i did well as i managed to get him under control and steer him properly,as at the beginning he was kind of going wherever he wanted. i still feel like i did awfully,as i had such a positive lesson last week! i was just wondering what other people did on thier second lessons, everyone on here seems to be progressing quite fast and i still havent mastered walk!hahahahahahahaha must go rainbowangel:p

Don't be disheartened - my godness it is only lesson two! I have had about 14 lessons now and they can be a mixed bag! Sometimes I do not feel like I am progressing at all and then will have a breakthrough! Have you tried trotting yet? I even still practise the basics like walk to halt transitions.

I know how you feal i was like that with my rising trott. it took me a little bit to master it. lol. :D but i got there. in my second lesson i just did some sitting trott and that mainly worked on my balnce. i am now working on my 20m circles. which i am getting good at. the horse i ride tends to speed up half way around the circle. and go straight on me lol. but on friday i got the beter of him finally :D. so my advice is just hang in there you will have lessons like that from time to time. Good luck with your next lesson let us know how u go :D

Don't be so hard on yourself - it can be difficult to get used to a new horse and it a previous one was easier to work with all of sudden you have to work harder its difficult. I've been riding for about 4 years and am only just getting canter. I still can't do a 20m circle very well and am still being told I'm riding on the wrong diagonal. Its part of the fun of this sport that some lessons are great and some are not so good. I had a lesson a couple of weeks ago and was dead chuffed with myself that I felt I turned my shoulders round the corner as I'd been learning the last few weeks - unfortunately I had a different RI and she didn't notice - I was gutted.

I still get "steer him!" yelled at me quite alot, its so funny! :p Its only with one particular pony who takes the mick though, I can do it with other ponies! Just wanted to let you know its not just you, I have had about 20 some odd lessons now (lost count!) and I still have yet to master steering, and sitting trot....forget it! Hope that helps. :D

i think my problem is that i really want to be a good rider and not being able to do something that is so basic is quite frustrating! even though ive now realised that even basic stuff isnt really basic as it takes all my strength and muscles just to get the horse walking around the school!!!!!!!!!!!!!hahahaha at least im finally getting some exercise though! also i find trotting quite scary,my ri leads me and i just cant concentrate all im thinking is 'this is really bouncy' eventually i got some form of rythm but not until i been bounced black and blue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I DO LOVE HORSE RIDING, its so rewarding to me!!!! *emma*:) :) :)
