I thought I had read this in Walter Zettl's book but I couldn't find it there just now. Basically in a dressage book the author quoted the last words of a famous Reitmeister (forgot which one) as saying something to the effect of: "What a shame I must go now. I was just getting good at it".
And the point of the story was that this person was in their 80s and had dedicated their whole life to riding and they still had something to learn and improve on.
