We have had no rain (well not if you count 2mm in 8-9 weeks!) up north of Auckland and the place is looking so dry. We can drive to the city and be in rain and yet out we we are (and where my horses are) - nothing!!
This picture was taken just the other day - it's a road I drive along to go see my horses (from home)....

BTW - Garbo has staggers again - bad eyesight, staggering, stumbling, spooky, jumpy - poor boy - so it's off the grass again and onto the EquiPur ($133 a bottle)...

Hello! Is that hay or is it Haylage? I was wondering.. are your seasons backwards from ours? Your summer is in what we call winter?

I can send you rain! Just a case of working out how to package it... And maybe you can send some of the weetabix to replace our unseasonal sugary grass  We've been getting 30-50mm per day... Often for 4 days in a row
Poor Garbo, he's having a bit of a rough time - hope he's feeling a bit better soon. Is is related to the very hot weather you've been having?

I know - I shouldn't complain! :)
TeeHee - it's hay - haylage is covered in plastic.
The southern hemisphere is currently summer yes...
Gosh 30-50mm a day!!! OMG no wonder you have lakes instead of paddocks.
I have a feeling when it does rain here it will flood because the ground is so hard....
Garbo should show signs of improvement soon - my mistake was I ran out of staggers supplement (that binds the toxins and does not let it into the blood) for 4 days - the grain store ran out - and those 4 days has really thrown him. Just goes to show I did need to feed it though (having fed it daily for the last 12 months)...
His initial symptoms (which I should have noticed this time) are itching all over - an insane itch which he does not seem to get rid of easily, bloating and his eyesight is effected hence the jumpiness. Then comes the stumbling and hopping due to all his muscles being affected.
capalldubh - he seems to get staggers around Feb/March when the grass is really dry - not sure exactly what he is allergic to in it though....
Whatanejit - bummer - when did they come - Dec rains alot these days - Feb-April always seem better now....
Post some piccies of your paddocks please - remind me of what mud looks like!

Its so dry up here as well :(
The grass has pretty much stopped growing, good thing my horses are fat at the moment! But I have had to open the gate and let them have access to both the paddocks.
Hope Garbo gets better soon :)

I feel your pain :). It's meant to pour in July. Hopefully that means NZ will get quite a lot of rain too.

Wyoming never has enough rain for the pretty green grass. It's pretty depressing. I grew up in the midwest (Michigan) and its ALWAYS green there. Soo..... :(

Poor Garbo I hope he feels better soon - sounds like you have it under control though. We had a lovely spring day yesterday - I took my daughter to help out a friend at the stables and it was quite pleasant. They have just bought a nine month old mare who is no integrated yet. She had her first bath (in nine months) yesterday and so I spent an hour or so with her on a lunging rope in a field while she ate what we suspect was her first grass and got some sun while she dried. It was really nice to get a little bit of sun.
