Ok Xena's mane is in need of a pull soon. She is a welsh section D so should have a long mane but because she has sweet itch she just rubs it so thats why we pull it.
Her owner/rider is at uni and when she was up in Jan she just leveled it out abit but didnt pull it properly as she didnt have enough time.
Xena is a fidget alot of the time when tied up. She can be a pain to groom but i have got to know her better now and shes the type of horse that needs to be told off alot until she gets the message then shes good as gold.

Well the point of this thread is that i know shes going to play up for me when i pull her mane. So first of all i will take her out on a hack first and because i am going to do it in half term i will do it over several days. So after riding i will tie her up and start pulling her mane while shes cooling down.
I will also stand on a box or something so i have a height advantage.

When her owner came up last time to pull her mane she behaved perfectly for her ... yet she can be a naughty girl for me and her other owner.
Her mane is quite thick at the moment and definately needs a good pulling. I am going to do it with a pulling comb. I am not using a solo comb because i havent got one lol.

I have pulled alot of manes before. I just need tips for pulling manes with naughty ponies.
Thanks x

Here are a few pics that you can see her mane on

My horse is awful when I pull his mane so I usually give up. However, if someone else (who is better at it than me) does it, I have noticed that he settles after about five minutes. I usually give him a nice groom / massage of the hind quarters whilst friend pulls mane and that usually works. Why not find someone to help you out?:D

My lad is a pain as well, l take him away from his stable (less territoral) and do his mane from the wrong side this helps.
He is always bolshy to start with but l just work through that and eventually he stands like a lamb.
Worth a try if it works.

It looks better even though i havent finished yet.
