hi! well i finally got a new camera and have spent the day harrassing jerry and my dog..:D

i had a bad start with jerry as i got a fright when trying horses out and was really nervous riding a horse i didnt know - i was also trying to excersize my other 2 horses at the time of getting him (june 06) so it has taken me a long time getting used to him. my riding was rusty as i'd been used to the same horse for a while without lessons.

well....i've finally got the "hang" of him and i'm taking the plunge of going to our first show on 7th April.

i'm not being too adventerous (sp?) though - only doing one showing class as his jump is still to excitable! but there is 2 classes i would like to do but they are on at the same time!!

- Small Hunter (horses 14.2 - 15.2, no jump, horses judged on conformation, turnout and rideability)

- Riding Horse (horses over 14.2 - similar to above but no mention of judge riding your horse)

now i'm going more with the riding horse class as i don't think he has enough condition just now for the first class, then again i'm no expert!!

URGENT advice is needed as entry closing date is this week and i'm close to chickening out!!

lastly, the pics, i threw the last two in for the fun it!!:p

Guess the breeding if you like!

Hi
I would just go and decide on the day what you want to do. At least you have gone and given your horse the experience of getting there and the environment, If it is a no go this time at least you have given an introduction to your horse and next time will get better. :)

From what I can see on the piccies he looks more hunter than riding horse but I am not an expert in this field.....

A closer side on shot would help, and one of his movement.

For hunter you would wear tweed and plain tack, for riding horse, navy jacket and a coloured but not too flashy browband.

HI, lovely pictures! Is it the Renfrewshire Riding Club show at Ingliston? I am going to that, but only in the afternoon for the jumping, as I don't think my hairy beast's turnout will be up to scratch for the showing yet! Maybe see you there?

Not sure about which class, I'm afraid - he could do either I would have thought. I think you can enter on the day for an extra pound or so, if you can't make up your mind though.

I would put him into riding horse, as he appears a little fine of bone to be a small hunter, but at local level you can get away with doing both, provided they don't clash as in this case.

Navy hat and green/brown tweed jacket with long boots for both classes, and a show browband for the riding horse class, preferably a flat noseband/browband for the hunter class.

hi, thanks for the advice guys!

Lucyad - yes it is that show, i def wont be jumping;) i will probably go back in the afternoon to watch though, unless i come 1st or 2nd in the showing and have to wait for the championships - i doubt this!

katie2 - he rides v.big for his height (hence my trouble riding him at the beginning) and when he's in an outline he may aswell be in a dressage contest (he's a show-off). so his paces are long and floaty but no too floaty like you may imagine an arab??

Daffy Dilly - i'm prob steering more towards the RH class too as he doesn't have alot of bone like you say. he is also mistaken for a TB if this gives you a better mindshot of him. his prob is that he still needs to fill out which makes him look quite dainty for a hunter!;)

By the way you describe his movement, he sounds more riding horse then.....

Hunters are more workmanlike.

I immediately thought riding horse when I saw the first pic. By the way, I assumed he was a TB, guess he's not! He's gorgeous, I love orange horses with blazes :)

Lucky you you get to wear a fancy browband :p I can't, ever with my lot!
