I've sort of decided that I'd like to get some posh Sprenger stirrups. I really like my cheapy bendy ones but one pair sqeak & creak, the rubber cover on the bendy part of the other pair has perished & they look a bit ropey. I was Googling to see who sold the Sprengers & how much they were when I came across these:

There is only a couple of quid difference in price between these & the normal bendy Sprengers. So, has anyone tried these? Are they better than the conventional Sprengers? (And am I the only one who thinks the blue bits are a bit bright!!)

Hi Jenni - that would be great, thanks! Is the blue as blue as it looks in the Derby House catalogue? I might do some showing, sometimes bright colours don't seem to go down very well!

okay, i took snaps of them with a boot in them so you can see.
They blue bit is rubber so if it really annoyed you you could just colour it in with a permanent black marker pen.
the offset ones are good for dressage riding i hear!! not trying to encourage you to spend !! lol lol

Since you ask, I have two thoughts.
First is that when a new product comes out, I personally prefer to wait a year or two - see how it goes. Not every innovation proves a good thing. And sometimes manufacturers like to have a new product every season.
They may also need to compete with other brands, so if e.g. Mountain Horse bring out a new stirrups, Sprenger may want to do the same.
The second is that the reason I liked my Sprengers so much - and the look alike ones too for that matter - was that they are conventional in shape. I like to ride with conventional tack because in my lesson I use conventional stirrups. I disliked other safety designs because they were not symetrical. I dismount using the stirrup and prefer to use a conventional symetrical stirrup when both mounting and dismounting.

i think these have been on the market for a few years. in america though i think. i looked at a lot of reviews before i purchased them.
The bow i supposed to help you retrieve your stirrup easily if you loose it, due to the way the bow sits when in a stirrup leather.
My picture are probably not very good. i think when you are riding in them and when attached to a leather they would look more even.
I have pain in my knee and riding makes it more painful so i am willing to try anything that can make it less painful and more enjoyable. I suppose though what suits one person might not have the same effect for another. I guess you have to do a bit of trial and error with new prodcuts.
If you go to www.thesaddleryshop.co.uk (i think) you can actually hire them and try them out. Then if you feel they make a difference you purchase a new pair and send the trial ones back.
