Hi guys

I had the farrier out to kia today. He thinks that the feet do have a slight infection but it is very slight and we bleached the holes. I'll post pics when they upload.

He also looked at the line and he see no evidence of WLD just that the feet were mucky as when I washed the feet the line looked fine.

He also thinks that even if he had to balance the feet more and give them a roll that they are too bruised from the ground and he says that they have no structure and the coming hardening of the ground through spring and summer will only make him worse. He suggest putting the shoes back on.

His feet are really bruised and not just at the bottom. Halfway to 3/4 of the way up is bruised as well. I'll post piccies later that I took.

I just wanted to ask, does anyone else use bleach???? I brought out the betadine and he told me that that wont work and he asked me for household bleach which I have for cleaning stuff so he diluted it and put it in the hols and stuff came out is this normal???

Again I'm a complete novice with feet and barefoot has went out the window but you peeps are really knowlegable so here is another stupid question from me!!!! ;)

Thanks peeps!!!!!!!! :D

Should I ride even if the shoes go back on and he is sound??? Or should I just leave them till the bruising fades. he has never really had bruising like this with shoes on!!!

Bleeding piccys wont upload!!!!

As I understand it bruising only becomes evident a while after it has been caused, so what you're seeing is old trauma. Did the farrier have any suggestions as to the cause? Has it happened since the shoes came off? If he's sound and the farrier thinks it's OK then there's no real reason not to ride that I can see.

and he says that they have no structure and the coming hardening of the ground through spring and summer will only make him worse

If you were able to keep your horse comfortable to start with then it would actually have the opposite effect, I've seen it happen first hand several times. If you can't then shoeing will add structure externally and hopefully make him comfortable, but it won't do very much to improve them.

I wouldn't use bleach personally as you stand a good chance of killing healthy tissue along with the infection.

Thanks Yann.

i was a bit amazed really. i mean he diluted it but...............

The bruising has been there since he cast the back shoes while I was waiting for a farrier back in dec/jan. He wasnt shod for a while due to lack of decent farriers around here.

the bruises are quite pink does that make a difference???
