.. and they are too expensive for me to get this wrong! He seems to have long feet (although he does need a trim - he's just in the 8th week now)... he is 120mm wide and about 135mm long - if not a little more.

I read on the website that it's best to buy to accomodate the length, but this means adding a whole 10mm onto the width.

Now my questions ( ) are:

1/ Should I buy when his feet need trimming (I am desperate now as he is footsore and I need to ride him at the weekend, so maybe can't wait for a trim due to delivery times etc)

2/ can they be adjusted to accomodate trims and growth

3/ will they fall off once his feet are at their trimmest

4/ As his feet are changing all the time, I took the measurement to where the shoes normally end i.e. where the foot touches the ground.. would this be correct?

5/ should i get inserts if this is the case? they say on the website that you should only get inserts if the difference between length and width is 4 sizes and his is only 2.

oh questions, questions.... HEEEEEEEEEELP! Am dithering like a fool... just don't want him to flip flop around and lose the flipping shoes on hacks. He will only wear them on hacks and I suppose I can try to avoid mud. Can you please tell me your experiences about sizing..

Many many thanks from me and CW!:o

(oh god, sorry this is so loooo **yawn**ng)

Oh dear, this is a subject dear to my heart:rolleyes: My inclination would be a size 5, the foot is very long and correct trimming should shorten it and bring it back almost immediately and also over time. Is the toe flared forward at all? Length is critical in these boots, too short and horses seem to show shortened strides and discomfort. If your horse has fairly straight action then you won't necessarily have any problems at all with twisting and the boots are quite accomodating of foot changes.

You could try a hire with a view to buy from www.thesaddleryshop.co.uk

I also have some surplus size 5's:o

Thanks yann. I 'was' going to go one size bigger at a 6 to make sure it didn't pinch, but with the sizings do you think a 5 will be fine? i am almost erring on the 'a little too big' rather than the pinchy smaller ones... just in case I have got my measurements wrong (have found it difficult to measure length as his feet have changed so much and don't have the shoes any more to give me an idea (doh! clueless or what!!?)

the toe isn't flared and also has straight action, so that's good news I suppose.

So in your opinion should I buy 5's and just get his feet trimmed before use? and does this mean his feet will always have to be trim to fit in them?

I would just feel bad as he is rather ouchy right now and to put something pinchy on his feet if I get it wrong with wrack me with guilt!

If only there was a Clark's machine for horses' feet!!!! (remember those machines in Clarks? used to tickle my feet I remember!)

Yes to the first question (size and trim), no to the second.

The boots are sized to give you room for the hoof to grow between trims, as long as you don't leave the trims months and months apart.
