After Lesley kindly let me ride Peter at the weekend in her wow saddle it was found that he moved a lot better and was not as restricted as he is in his barnsby. Having seen the price of the wow I was wondering if there was any other type of saddle I could use. Would a freedom or any treeless saddle work just as well (I know if won't be as wow :p)

you can get your normal treed saddle fitted with the flair, air flocking system used in WOW saddles as long as the saddle does fit correctly, this if i can remember rightly costs around £300

wide. During the summer he puts all on his belly

Wide is good! I love my new Sensation Treeless Saddle. It puts me in a nice position:

It's fairly affordable and IMHO is far superior to any other treeless in that price range. The only downside is that they won't work for my spine prominent TB (so wide with a flat back is good!).

Hope this works. Not sure how to make it bigger

If you emailed it to Kaaren, she'd be able to tell you if it would be suitable.

He has got a lot of wither ATM but is broad below the wither. He would need a lot of shimming with a treeless to get the saddle balanced without pressure areas.
Retro-fitting with Flair may be an option with the Barnsby as it fits him in the summer months reasonably well and that would allow adjustment for when he drops a bit in the winter months. I think it is around £300 to have a saddle flaired - can find out for you on that one.

Retro fitting of flair would probably be your best bet. I know several poeple who have had it done to thier saddles and noticed a definite improvement in the horses movement.
What you must keep in mind though is that the wow has a very unique tree which is completely ridgid front to back but with huge lateral flexability allowing the saddle to move with the horses shoulder. You wont get this from your current saddle.

Please lesley that would be great. I'd really like to see him working the way he was on Sunday albiet without me hindering him :D

My horse was in a Barnsby when i got him and i thought he was restricted in it. I got a Fhoenix which he goes well in but i have got fed up with it after 6 months. In canter it is so soft i think i am coming down on his back harder than in a treed. It has started to give me back ache which i find strange and I've also gone off the stirrup bar position which to start with i thought was great.
My instructor is very keen on Passier saddles - they have a wide gullet and the tree points are shorter than Walsall trees. My fella has a high wither that comes back a long way so we don't have alot of choice with the treeless saddles (my other horse in in a Barefoot and very happy).
I'm going to buy a second hand Passier for him. Certain makes of saddle don't fit horses well, a bit like brands of Jeans on us? Might just be that the Barnsby isn't a good fit but have fun with the treeless saddles - my preference is for less squidgy foam so the horse can support your back.

Just curious because I am now looking at one. I have a short backed, high withered 15.1 Morab. We have been using a Barefoot Cheyenne but he is not as comfortable as he could be so we are now thinking of a Fhoenix. Very hard to find second hand in New Zealand so doing lots of reading first.
thanks
