She looks great, I love connies :D
So long as you can feel her ribs fairly easily when you touch her then thats about right, if she is prone to weight gain then cutting back her rations now before the grass comes through should help you keep on top of it :p I like my horses to go into spring a bit on the thin side (if they are on grass) so that they can afford to gain a little when the grass comes through.
If you are worried try condition scoring, its the most accurate way to see how they are fairing :D

i'd like a bit more muscle at the bottom of that neck - at the minute there is a dip at the bottom of the crest, which indicates a lack of muscle there. that bit where the tufty bit of mane sticks up in the first pic - i'd like that a smoother line, whereas now it dips in. this might be a rug thing, where the edge of the rug flattens the hair, though. other than that she looks good.

You know that's really strange, she does have a dip there and so did my old loan pony who was a show pony in his younger years...I don't know why or how to fill in the gap?
See..what's that about?

Being ridden in a false outline would certainly result in the dip at the base of the neck.
A true outline comes from the horse lifting it's stomach muscles, raising the back and engaging it's hindquarters. When this happens the base of the neck raises, utilising the muscle where there's currently a hollow. The absence of this hollow is a good way to monitor whether a horse is being worked correctly or not.
Correct work is the answer, so starting with long and low and building from there is the way to go.

Shamrock has a huge dip there too. Also works like a giraffe. Depressing. I have bought a pessoa type thing would this help? I keep looking at it in the bag and so many ropes and things it all looks so complicated for me!:o
We seem to be sharing threads today Laura+Phantom, sorry:o :D
