Am I right in thinking it should be jumped at a forward going pace? But do you still take the corners steadily and sensibly? What is this bit marked on?
Going to do my first class next month, eek! Will I definately need a helper to brush off and help me get back on after the in hand bit? I'll have to rope dad in..

Yes the course should be more flowing than an SJ course so you can set up a forward going canter and maintain it but at local level you need to walk the course to decide if this is possible. Generally fences should look solid and imposing but often at small shows they are just SJ with rustic poles.
Local shows seldom strip horses (untack for inhand) and usually do a ridden show instead of judge ride. Jump in what you feel best in, personally I award extra points for a simple snaffle at local level but that is purely a personal view not a rule :D

Ah thanks I think my RC does strip them off, i'm an adult on a pony so judge won't be riding, like you say I doubt they will all do that though, I hope not anyway!

I would be extremely surprised if they do ride.
I've always preferred snaffles for novice classes, but unless it says in the schedule, it's up to the individual.
