can anyone tell me what the rules are about entering affiliated competitions if your not registered with B.d. Am a bit confused about ' tickets' and whether its possible for prelim tests to just enter anyway. If thats the case is there a limit to how many times you can enter. Is it possible to do a novice test without a 'ticket'? Am confused!

You're not the only one that gets confused :D

Here is the info from the FAQ on the BD Site:
http://www.britishdressage.co.uk/faqs.cfm?start=1

Can non-members compete in affiliated prelim classes?

Yes. Prelim classes are split into open and restricted sections. The open section is for anyone, member or non-member, riding a registered or non-registered horse which must not have more than 37 points. Those competing in open sections do not qualify for summer or winter regional finals.

What are class tickets?

By buying a class ticket for £6, you can enter one British Dressage class without being a member or having a registered horse. You can use a maximum of six tickets per year and win rosettes and prize money, but will not receive BD points or qualifications, except for Area Festivals and Combined Training Championships. You and your horse will need to be members before entering these championships. If a rider using a class ticket wins a qualifier other than those specified above, qualification will pass to the next eligible competitor.

When you buy a class ticket from British Dressage (tel: 024 76 698830), you will be sent an entry form and an issue of British Dressage magazine, which lists all the current show schedules. These are also available online in the competition section of this website. You will need to pay the usual competition entry fee and abide by our rules.

From this I understand that you don't need a class ticket for a Preliminary level class, however you do for the higher levels.

A quick phone call to BD would make certain of this, try it they're very helpful ;)

From what I understand (which isn't very much!) - you can enter a prelim without having to be a member and without needing a ticket but you have to go in the open section. If you join as a member you can enter the restricted section without having to register your horse.

For higher levels you need a ticket but there is no longer a limit to the number of tickets you use in a year (although at some point it would probably be more cost effective to actually join!)

prelim you can enter without a ticket. Enter on a ticket for anything else. You will not be able to qualify for anything even in prelim and I dont think you can win money or be placed on a ticket in novice + nor will you be awared points obviously.
