it does have a relatively low starch content and is high in fibre for what it is.
It depends on the individual horse on whether or not it helps your horse to settle, and if it doesn't work out then i would personally think of using a high fibre, low starch and sugar leisure cube or forage-based feed (such as one from the Dengie range) as these proviode slow-release energy and are very high in fibre, so are far less likely to exaggerate your horse's natural temorement as a mix could (mixes tend to contain less fibre and more starch and sugar than cubes and forage-based feeds).
keep tabs for a couple of weeks and see how he goes.
and remember that it is healthier for your hrosre to receive the correct amounts of a lower energy feed than onyl a handful or few of a higher-energy feed, so as to provide him with all the nutrients, vitamins and minerals he needs. if you are not feeding the recommended amount then you will need to add a broad spectrum vitamin ad mineral supplement or a feed balancer (such as Global herbs Globalvite/NAF Pink powder or Baileys Lo-Cal/Blue Chip original) alongside his current feed.
you need a feed which will provide sparkle without fizz, and reducing the amounts fed by up to half, alongside the balancer or vitamin and mineral supplement), on his very fizzy days and increase it again to the recommended amounts when he is more lethargic.

good luck

I put my filly on it when we first started doing more training/groundwork with her as a 2 year old as she seemed to be getting very tired after our sessions and loosing weight.
A week later I took her off it again :o it sent her a bit potty, far too much whizzyness and sillyness from her
I then started to give Bo (my older horse) it to use up the bag, he didn't get much but again he got a bit on edge, though not too bad.
Looking at the feed, it seemed to have alot of peas and whole grains in it - I guess ofr my two who are used to high fibre feed that was just to much protien and starch. Interestingly, Bo also gets hyped (as many horses do) on Pasture mix, which also has a high content of peas in it. Peas are quite a high energy feed stuff, some horses seem to react to them where some don't :p

I think Afellpony gives it to Falcon and likes it a lot (I'm sure she'll correct me if I'm wrong!).

My boy is on it after I had some 'fun' with him when he was on Pasture mix :D Not funny really he was a nightmare on it!!

I switched him to ride & relax & he is a different horse, realy quiet & never bolts off with any more.

Definately got a better attitude about him now :)

Yes, Peanut you're right I do feed Ride and Relax (mixed with chaff) to Falcon. He seems ok on it - but just lately he's been a bit silly. I can put this down to the fact that the ponies who live out have had to put up with mud, (glorious mud) and so, have been unable to run around as much as they like to. So, I suppose the sillyness stems from this. I hope it's not the feed. If it is I'll have to look at some other calming food. Before his outbursts of silliness, he's been very calm and controllable on this feed.

I fed it to Dakota and to loki when I got him. They both ended up dopes on a rope:p Loki had to come off it as he walked everywhere half asleep but it worked lovley on Daks it just kept the edge off him and let him work etc without losing his cool

yes, it could be useful - but each to their own, wisely.
