Do the 'Cytek Approved Farriers' actually have to be qualified farriers first or can they just be 'Cytek Approved Farriers'?

Thanks

AFAIK in the UK (at least the bits the FRC covers) they have to already be farriers due to the law and only farriers being allowed to shoe, but outside the UK there's no need to be a qualified farrier to train as a cytek farrier.

Thank you :) That's what I assumed but was recently told otherwise. I also looked on the Cytek site and not all of the UK ones actually give any other qualification except 'CAF' which I found a bit odd as you'd expect them to add their 'regular' farriery qualifications too.

Oh, and to everyone who pm'd me, thank you :) and no, Saffy is most definitely staying barefoot but I do appreciate your input.

Last I heard was if you trained to be a cytek farrier you had to stop shoeing in any other manner, which is probably why those farriers listed on the Cytek website don't use their FRC quals.

Right ... that sort of makes sense! Thank you :)

WHAT!

If you train to be a Cytek farrier you cannot sho any other way???? What rot!

before I was put on the register, when I enquired about doing Cytek training, I was told the only way I could legally do the course in the UK was on dead legs!

If you are training in any other country you don't have to be a Dip. WCF. IN the UK if you trim a foot in preparation for a shoe you must be a registered farrier or aprentice.

If they told me I had to stop shoeing by any other methos I'd tell them where to go. Cytek does not suit every horse and rider and sport combination.

That definitely used to be the case, it may have changed recently but I have a suspicion not.

Cytek does not suit every horse and rider and sport combination.

I agree. It's also not intended for long-term use, or at least it wasn't originally so you'd run out of clients eventually. Well, you would if you were doing a good job.

Cytek cannot legally put restrictions on folk like that

I don't think it's a legally binding contract type thing, just something that the farriers who sign up with them accept/voluntarily agree to.

I know of one farrier who has got out of cytek shoeing and I got the impression it was a very acrimonious process.
