I've just got a new loan arab x. Her owners are keen to keep her on her existing feed which is mollichaff herbi plus a coarse mix, garlic and live aid supplement. I'm not too keen on the Chaff as it seems to me to be full of molasses. In the past I have always fed my horses on simple systems with fantastic results but the owners dont seem keen. I dont want to appear to be one of these loanees who want to change everything but this pony is quite sparky, and I dont feel she needs the extra sugar boost. Is there anything that would appear to them quite conventional ie an existing product they have heard of, that has a similar mineral content plus the herbs which keep the respiratory system sound. I hope in time to be able to persuade them of the bens of simple systems but dont want to rush things. I know how difficult it is to loan out your pony, without the added problem of thinking that your loanee is constantly trying to challenge your ways. Any help gratefully received

Thanks

one of the Dengie lot - some are lightly oiled or molassed, but they are fantastic feeds - check out www.dengie.com.

good luck

Mollichop does tend to have lots of molasses, but as you loan the horse you may find persuading the owner difficult, perhaps suggesting one of the HiFi range might be good, far less molasses but basically the same chaff deep down ;)

i would personally want to change to hi fi or something along thoses lines as mollichop is coated so you cant really see the product that is being fed but you can with the hi fi,if they like the herb side of the feed you could give meadow herb by dodson and horrel? instead of the coarse mix..but if its only a loan pony i suppose its up to the owners?

Thanks guys, I think I'll keep her on the Mollichaff until I've proved to the owners that I am responsible, and then maybe suggest the others. She really is very lovely pony and I am reluctant to annoy them in anyway, perhaps I'll continue with the Mollichaff and substitute some of it with what you have suggested as time goes on. Mucho thanx
